Every day, we are bombarded with names of political arrow heads vying for the presidency. All claiming to do this and that. It is a common anomaly in Nigeria that every state governor that has served two terms always want to be president. Is it not possible to effect some changes without been a president?

Every candidate is suddenly a patriot. Every candidate touts such selfless leadership we are yet to find. How selfless can they get? How selfless did they get when they had the chance? How selfless is he who is with the power of incumbency now that he has the chance?

Its time we subject their platitudes and cheap-talk to the scrutiny of exhaustive debates and frank-talk.

Let us not be taken by their promises of free meals, free amenities and infrastructure for in the normal conditions of existence, there is hardly any free meal. It’s the duty of the government to provide among other things; good roads and electricity, security and a stable economy; for we do pay for them – quite painfully too. that is why they deplete our income by tax.

Let us begin to choose our preferred candidate in the light of our most pressing goals, the possibilities of projecting them in time and pursuing them via conscious and concerted efforts.

Do not be deceived by their promises of unblemished altruism for if anything, the advocates of such altruism are often times unable to base their ethics and projections on any dependable philosophy of human existence – as you will discover at question time during our political debates if we develop the courage to institute them – they always offer "life-boat" solutions as lifelines from which to derive their philosophy of governance and moral conduct while they claim to pursue the actualisation of our most unrealistic fantasies.

How capable are the contenders to truthfully steer this nation forward?
