The World Malaria day was established in May 2007 by the World Health Organisation during the 60th session of the World Health Assembly. The day was established to provide education and understanding of malaria.
This day replaced the Africa Malaria Day, which was observed on the same day, established in 2001.
1. Malaria is caused by plasmodium parasites spread through bites of infected anopheles’ mosquito.
2. In 2015, there were approximately 212 million malaria cases with 429 000 deaths.
3. Malaria incubation period is between 7 and 15 days. Although some cases can run into several months.
4. More than 70% of malaria deaths happen to under 5 years old. In 2015, about 303 000 children below five died in Africa.
5. Malaria mortality has fallen to 29% globally.
6. 99% of malaria cases in Europe comes from travelling.
7. Early treatment of malaria can prevent death. Although the treatment pattern varies from country to country.
8. There have been cases of malaria parasite resisting artemisinin in South east Asia. Artemisinin is the core compound in uncomplicated malaria treatment.
9. Malaria comes from Italian. Mal’aria meaning “bad air”.
10. Pregnant women are at more risk of malaria than any other group.
How can you help?
Treating malaria is great but preventing the mosquito from biting in the first place is the best way.
You can help by:
• Draining standing water from your environment.
• Consider using a mosquito net. This is the safest way to prevent.
• Keeping your environment neat.
• Spraying your home with environmentally friendly insecticides.
• Educating others about malaria.
Finally, malaria respects no one. Not even the most powerful people have control over malaria when it comes calling. Four popes have died from malaria. Eight US presidents have contracted the disease. Keep yourselves safe.

I wonder if mosquito followed NOAH into the ark or was created after the flood. If it was in the ark, I just pity how many times malaria go catch NOAH and him children before the forty days forty night ended.
