Alcohol is one vice I have no problem with since it disturbs nobody else but you the consumer.
Life is boring, animals hate going through the mundane.
Alcohol provides a temporarily new perspective to experience things.
Watching sports is better with alcohol, chatting with friends is more engaging even talking to girls makes more sense with it.
Leave whomever to enjoy it.
My bigger problem is those who abstain from it.
Their whole aim in life is to pester drunks who enjoy themselves, trying to force their opinion on them.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the number one cause alchol intake is so prevalent among youths even in Junior secondary schools.
Growing up in the 80s 90s and early 2000s, buying of alcohol is expensive, at least for a teenager then, schnapps Aromatic gin comes in very big bottle that not everyone can afford. But now gin comes in N50 and N100 satchets that even a primary school boy can afford.
There are now many brands of cheap satchets gin that claims to be for " manpower" "Jedi""opa eyin" etc some of the brand names sound so ridiculous. The women who sell these alcoholic drinks do pack them in a bowl in different brands. Go to any garage in Lagos or any busy area you will see them there.
In America you can't buy alcohol if you don't have an I'd that you are 18 and in most states 21 years. But here, parents send children to buy beers, uncles send their nephews to buy satchets gin.
I thank God that I have formed all my habits before this new era of drugs and alcohol abuse, please parents you will have to do x10 of home training of what our parents gave us to your kids if you don't want them to waste their lives. Things so bad morally nowadays.
When I was serving I caught little boys not more than 13 to 15 years with nude women photos on their phone? Now anyone with a smart phone and internet connection can have access to millions of porn materials with just a few words search on Google.
Parents don't take anything for granted,things are different now compare to when we were kids.

It is well known... alcoholism and drug abuse increase a whole lot in communities/societies with high unemployment and worse...hopelessness. USA..... small towns and cities when major employers move.... Native American Reservations.... hopelessness.... locally....do I have to say?

I agree with you, but the issue is not on the holy ones. But the question was simply why the increase in alcohol intake in this generation compare to the other.

For all I know more people drank in the last generation compared to now.
The only way to confirm the assumption is officiating a survey.
A man in one village far flung from civilization might ask “why do things happen [insert funny way]?” not knowing it is an occurrence only in his part and not worldwide.
If more people actually drink nowadays I will chalk it up to the stress of daily life.
Most of the drunks in villages I’ve visited were always the most stressed out people.
The men (primarily) preferred to live life in a drunken haze than face the harsh reality of it.

In reference to the aforesaid questions the following are the reasons for the excess intake of alcohol amongst Nigerian youths:
1)Depression
2)Unemployment
3)Divorce from spouses
4)Failed relationship
