Membership in U.S. churches has hit an all-time low, according to a recent Gallup poll. Gallup found that just 50% of people who were surveyed were members of a church, mosque or synagogue, according to The Hill. That’s the lowest number ever. Church membership was above 70% from 1937 to 1976, Gallup says, falling to 68% in the late 1970s through the 1990s. Gallup found that 19% of Americans have no religious affiliation, up from 8% in 2000. A total of 2,000 adults were surveyed. The poll has a 3% margin of error.
