One suspect is in custody and police are searching for two more who were involved in a bias-based assault in Boulder.

Olubiyi Ogundipe, a University of Colorado-Boulder student from Nigeria, was walking with another friend also from Nigeria, just after 2 a.m. Saturday, near Broadway and Pleasant streets.

Three suspects walking behind them used the n-word, called the victims monkeys and told them to go back to their country, according to a police report.

Ogundipe, 19, turned around and confronted the suspects but the suspects began punching him in the face, knocking him to the ground.

A campus police officer who was driving by witnessed the assault and stopped to help, at which point the suspects ran.

Joseph Owen Coy, 22, of Lafayette was arrested after a short foot chase. Coy is the suspect believed to have punched Ogundipe.

He was booked into jail on charges of bias-motivated crime, which is a felony, and for obstruction.

Ogundipe was taken to the hospital and treated for some lacerations, but did not sustain serious injuries.

Boulder police are looking for two other males, one a smaller white male, between the ages of 18 to 20. It is unclear what their role was at this time.

Instead of hitting hard on their books for them to be exemplary students like these hardworking Nigerians, they think hate-crime would solve their illetaracy issues.

you cant outrun them because they move in groups, and intentionally set out to provoke and aggravate.

and be on the lookout for non-whites too. Dont assume the provocation would only come from whites.

the best bet is to be alert at all times.
