Too large a proportion of that population is uneducated & there's zero effort to improve the situation.

Good education is an important key to unlucking opportunities to improve one's lot in life.

I fear for this country.

I don't believe those estimated figures up there. Nigeria should conduct a proper population census and stop cooking up figures up and down. At least it's over 10years since the last one

well said.

Chukwuka16:
It's a lie.

In the words of Benjamin Disraeli, “There are three types of lies – lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Where is the database of births and deaths in Nigeria?
When BVN was introduced, how many valid bank accounts were recorded?
Even the ongoing registration of SIM cards is singing a different tune.

Let's not allow the UN and other external bodies tell us how many we are. It is our responsibility to have in place a system that captures that fairly accurately.

Until we sort this out, social programmes will never achieve the intended aim.

they will just sit down somewhere and be cooking figures...its better to say "about 201"million instead of 201m
They don't just cook up numbers, these numbers are gotten using guided calculations. It's just like solving fermi's problems,
they don't have to count everyone per head. Although The number might not be exactly right but the percentage error is usually low which is very acceptable and makes it about accurate.

Nonsense.... What are these people feeling like.. Person go stay from him country dey count another country population....
Thank you sir, I disagree with their figures especially birth figures. They claimed women gave birth five children on the average. Hell no, I know counless people whom decided to give birth to just 2 or 3 kids.
Nigerians are wiser now, school fees has reformatted our mentality of given birth like pig. Virtually all my school mate gave birth to max of three kids. My colleagues two kids max. Where do they get figure of five children. How do they get 201milion population. The last time census took place was 2007.
