Club ownership in Nigeria has been fingered as one of the major reasons why league football in the country is in its current state. It is believed that the current government ownership of the majority of the clubs has hugely hampered on the development and professionalism in the running of the affairs of the clubs.

In times past many private individuals were involved in the ownership of club sides in Nigeria, from Abiola Babes owned by the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, Stationery Stores amongst others.

However, due to the high cost of running a football club and the death of some club proprietors, the number of privately owned clubs in the country dwindled as the government took over some while others were disbanded outrightly.

Recently, there has been a rise in the private ownership of club sides and today we take a look at the best of them across the local leagues

When did MFM FC win CAF champions league? That isn't correct

The writer didn't mean they won but rather to point the highest lebel they have played

exactly what I wanted to ask. Except the OP doesn't understand the meaning of "honours" in that context

The context is talking about the highest level they have played at not about winning.

MFM FC was at the pre-group qualifiers, I dont think the OP said won the champion league

You understand what the OP is trying to say

First, if this is a list of privately owned clubsides in Nigeria it's not complete by whatever criteria the listing is done. OP, you need to up your game. (Papilo FC, champions of Imo State FA cup on a number of occasions is missing, so also is Giwa FC, Champion of Plateau state FA cup on numerous occasions. There's also Ranchers Bees of Karina and so many others)

Then, if it's a ranking and not a listing, OP, you need to up your game too. How come Remo stars is in number one position? I believe Ifeanyi Uba FC deserves the number one position by a mile. Even ahead of Stationary Stores for the simple fact that they have their own stadium.

In conclusion, OP, up your game.

Thank you.

First the write up didn't say the it was not done on any particular criteria so the writer used his own discretion pile his list not based on the owners wealth.

It is you who should up ur game because Papillo Fc owned by Kani has been disbanded since cuz he couldn't maintain the team financially, that's over a year.

Giwa Fc, owned by Chris Giwa who has been banner over three years now by fifa from all football related activities which includes but not limited to owning a football club, holding a football administrative position

So ifeanyi uba fc was just founded 2015 and they are already grounded more than our own super eagles. We need more investment in our league to make it more interesting n business oriented

in footballing context, "honours" refer to football trophies won. So the OP is wrong in this context!
