Struggling to get a good sleep at night can be really challenging in this part of the world where our daily hustles and tussles are not friendly at all. Sleeplessness or most commonly known medically as insomnia is a common problem that can take a toll on one's life, mood, energy and ability to perform well in the day. Chronic insomnia can even contribute to serious medical problems.

Insomnia is simply the inability to fall asleep or maintain a good sleep in the night, and as a result, keeps one awake or makes one unable to stay asleep as supposed to. It is not about the number of hours you sleep at night as different people sleep for different number of hours, but the satisfaction one derives from one's sleep. You could sleep for 8 hours at night and still feel fatigued or weak in the day. It's a sign of insomnia. Causes of insomnia can differ from person to person and it can be as a result of taking too much caffeine in the day or thinking about a problem to a serious underlying medical condition. However, the good news is that you can cure insomnia by yourself without having to depend on medical prescriptions or over the counter (OTC) pills. This can be achieved by making certain changes on your way of life.

Thanks for sharing, I liked this article a lot. From my experience, I would say that both insomnia and hypersomnia can be very harmful to your health, but there's more to that. According to various sources, like this article about dyssomnia vs parasomnia for example, might lead to other sleeping disorders like sleep apnea, which sometimes may be lethal.
That's why you should be concerned about your sleep hygiene and stress level. I would also recommend reducing daily caffeine intake as much as possible.
