Arresting prominent opposition figures seem to be higher on the police and federal government's list than the major security issues in this country.

The reasons given for the usual political arrests are very flimsy. Earlier on it was Efcc opening or rather reopening cases against Saraki as he is about to leave office. Now it's Senator Adeleke's own case that is very obviously political. A case that has already been in court.

These actions set a bad precedent. When PDP was in power despite all their wrongdoings they did not go after opposition members like this .They didn't spew propaganda in this manner. This government has dictatorial tendencies.

They should however realise that no one holds power forever. I just hope a cycle of revenge would not be created.

“We alert the public, diplomatic and democracy community worldwide that the Nigerian Police has arrested and detained Senator Ademola Adeleke on old trumped up charges of certificate and testimonial forgery,” the statement read.

“This is after the school principal and school authority have through affidavits denied any forgery and owned up to the school testimonial issued to Senator Adeleke.

“Senator Adeleke had this morning honoured police invitation at the force headquarters, Abuja. He arrived at the force headquarters at 9am and was not attended to until later this afternoon when he was informed of fresh charges of testimonial forgery. The distinguished Senator was taken to Maitama Police station with plan to arraign him tomorrow at an undisclosed Magistrate court.”

The police have detained Ademola Adeleke, lawmaker representing Osun west senatorial district.

The senator was candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2018 governorship election in Osun state.

In a statement on Monday, the campaign organisation said Adeleke had honoured an invitation at the force headquarters in Abuja before he was detained.

why did he involve in certificate forgery in the first place? if the allegation is false let him prove it. he exposed himself by contesting for a public office when he already knew that everything about him will be verified, a corruption has no other name than corruption. he is in a political battle, so he must expect that everything about him must be investigated, all his weak points must be hit in order to weaken his strength, yes it's bound to happen and it can happen anywhere in the world.

In as much as I do not support injustice or oppression, but that doesn't mean I am pro-mediocrity. The question here is: why has Mr. Adeleke not made up his basic SSCE result after all these years, let alone a first degree? Knowing too well that he's from an education/certificate conscious society and was gonna be a future political aspirant. I do not support fraudulent short routes to great heights, therefore if he's prosecuted & found guilty, then he should dance to the music.
