INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu who spoke at the 12th National Delegates Conference of the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commissions of Nigeria held in Jos, Plateau State capital, on Wednesday, disclosed that Nigeria’s electoral law is problematic.

Mahmood who was represented by the electoral commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, stated a new legal framework must be put in place in order to address the irregularities being witnessed in the nation’s electoral process. The INEC Chairman who maintained that Nigeria's electoral law is problematic, stated that the current legal framework creates uncertainty and undermines the people’s confidence.

Mahmood who made a case for an electoral law that would ensure the settlement of all pre-election matters at least 60 days before the commencement of an election, disclosed that party nomination had a tremendous impact on the preparations and conduct of elections.

Saraki and some good heads came together to put what would have given us a chance on good electoral law reforms. But the zombies feared that their master will be the first victim of a credible system kicked against it.
Saraki's reform would have actually complicated matters.
One of the lines of his ammendment makes it non-mandatory for results to be counted and announced right at the pollen unit before onward transmission to INEC office as against the current law which says otherwise.

Secondly, a part of the Electoral Act says overvoting can only be established if the total number of votes cast in a pollen unit exceeds the total number of registered voters when in actual fact it should be when the votes cast exceed the acredited voters. For instance if there are 10 registered voters in a unit, and on voting day 5 come out for accreditation and go back home first to later come and vote as is the usual pattern, and at the end of voting 7 votes are counted; this situation according to the present electoral act can't be said to be a case of overvoting since the 7 votes recorded does not exceed the 10 names in the voters register. Does that make sense at all? But ironically Saraki's "reform" did not address this and many similar lacunae. So why wouldn't Buhari reject it?

The constitution of Nigeria recognised that INEC will have a guideline so INEC guideline is law

So INEC under Prof Yakubu set out and announced a guideline that was clear to all and would have given us a decent election only for him to change the rules when he realised Buhari has lost the election

What a Fraudulent professor that does not follow his own rules and moves the goal post in the middle of the game!

Now he wants to talk about electoral law!

That is what the party of CRIMINAL gave to our nation, they thought rigging will.work for them for the 60 years they predicted they will finish the country and leave.

And the people in APC now are saints from a far away planet Abi...

Which party is the majority in the national assembly in the last four years and please don't give that bullshit about Saraki and Dogara slowing progress because that is just APC looking for a scapegoat.

And please stop all this your wailing nonsense because some of us really want the success of this govt and the country.

Bros you are smarter than this now...

first off , there is nothing like educated illetrate, been Educated formally often requires literacy(ability to read and write) am very certain many fools like your self thinks literacy is some substitute for been a scholar, but you missed it, as even an almajiri that can read and write in Arabic is literate.

that been said, educational requirement for such post according to Abacha/Abdulsalami's constituition is O level school leavers certificate regardless of its grade whether f9 or d7, and we can see how that underdeveloped the nation.

a bsc holder in any field in the US that wants to go for the congress most likely would take a diploma in law or public governace.

Ambode did his governace coarse at Havard, el rufai in United Nations University and Sanwo - olu is currently in havard. even Dino melaye just had his masters in field suitable for governance.

but i guess you are to slow to understand the famous line of square peg , in square hole and round peg in round hole.

Even in business and Corporate Governace, most CEO goes back to Havard Business school for refresher coarses on management and business
Between a PhD holder in Igbo and a questionable waec certificate holder and quota system general, who do you think is better to rule a country in need of development?

Or don't you understand the difference between educational achievement and training courses? It is on record that he failed those courses though. Just like he failed waec so, what's ur point? Or you mean to tell us failure is an achievement? You better go and wash ur brain
