my ford explorer once stopped entering reverse gear, i spent over 90k on repairs before sense fell on me.
i changed the gearbox and now i know repairing engine or gear is a waste

There's no way a gear box can completely pack up because there are switches and solenoids that takes care of all functions in an automatic transmission. Whenever there is a problem with your gearbox, first scan it with a diagnosing tool to know exactly which switch or solenoid that is faulty, then replace it with brand new and original solenoid or switch not used ones.

As for the mechanics, it's one thing to have a scanning tool and another to read the DTC (Error report). Unfortunately scanning tools are not yet that common in mechanic workshops in Nigeria. Mechanics often do guess work on cars and also too stubborn to accept that they don't know certain things, after all the cars they are working on aren't theirs so they really don't care. At the end of the day a solenoid or switch that shouldn't cost more than N15,000 will result in replacing a whole transmission box.

Gear servicing is a venture I for one won't undertake. To the kazeems is just use fuel wash and replace fibres and solenoid. Guess what e go still park you.
