They have good case if they challenged it in court. It doesn't matter either way. The prresure should be in state assemblies to vote for LG autonomy amendment. These amendments should have been an election issue but whatever.

Please dont say it's the governors stopping the state assemblies. When it was time to give themselves and state judiciary autonomy it happened quick.

are you happy with the way this governors are looting the LG treasury and starving the LG of their funds? If yes, then it's safe to say you're a very wicked person.

It's bewildering how assembly members would vote against the financial autonomy of the local government they represent. Shocking

Local government autonomy should be fully implemented. The fact that LG funds for long has not been reaching the grassroots is part of the reason for the enormous poverty in the country

What is the function of the local government chairman and they not also bunch of criminals like the governors unless properly supervised.

You ain't seen nothing then.

If PMB pulls this off it will be his standing legacy. True the various State Houses of Assembly are supposed to vote for or against LGA Autonomy but just like the National Assembly; they don't have the interest of their constituents at heart. So this Financial Intelligence thing is more than enough to get the autonomy right from under their noses.

LG autonomy must stay. The governors should leave it at that ...

Most banks have given huge loans to 99% of Nigerian governors and these governors mortgaged local government allocation to these banks.

Governors are in trouble because there is no way they can pay these bank loans without local government allocation.

Next is to remove security vote money from governors then it is finished.

Are you dense, lor purposelessly missing the point? If yes you're a dumb person. I said the state assemblies need to pass local government autonomy.

The governor could win if they challenge this in court. The constitution gave them such powers hence the need for the amendment.

Section 162 (6), (7) and ( 8 ) of the 1999 Constitution offer some directions as to the legality of the state government to withhold or deduct from the local government’s share of the allocation.

(6) Each State shall maintain a special account to be called “State Joint Local Government Account” into which shall be paid allocations to the local government councils of the state from the Federation Account and from the government of the state.

(7) Each State shall pay to local government councils in its area of jurisdiction such proportion of its total revenue on such terms and in such manner as may be prescribed by the National Assembly.

( 8 ) “The amount standing to the credit of local government councils of a state shall be distributed among the local government councils of that state and in such manner as may be prescribed by the House of Assembly of the State not for the other.

Who's this misleading readers through suspicious headline?

The man was simply advising the FG, NASS & relevant agencies or authorities to do the needful by rectifying the constitutional issues regarding the LG financial autonomy first instead of causing more confusion as their (APC) usual way.

The word ‘politics’ is derived from the word ‘poly’, meaning ‘many’, and the word ‘tics’, meaning ‘blood sucking parasites’.

The states should fight this. NFIU was not created to supervise statutory roles bequethed to states. They have no business on who or where or how money should be disbursed. They are created as a proactive agency to fight financial corruption and embezzlement.

If they succeed in usurping state powers who knows what else they will be trying to do. If Buhari support their move on this then it would mean their published function is a smokescreen and they were truly created to expand FG's control and bring grassroot directly under control of the center.

Please, i dont want response from "we told you so" hindsighters, or the "karma" prophets. This affects every LG in the nation and only intelligent responses will be acknowledged.

Buhari and APC are synonymous in doing the right thing the wrong way.

And it will backfire. Until they restructure all this is just going to cause more tension in the polity.

The sad part about this is that these thieving governors are fighting against this because if will block them from stealing and wittle their power because if this is implemented the lg chairmen will have a lot of influence when it comes to elections especially if the lg chairman did well in his lg and is not in support of the gov.

Naija can tire person.

Id rather have LG remain under a thieving Governor and accessible at grassroot ownership than have it given autonomy and become dependent and accountable under a FG intent on using LG land for grazing routes. Look far beyond your nose and imagine the possibilities of LG becoming another statutory territory under a centralized federation.
