National Parents, Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) on Monday decried the spate of suicide among adolescents, urging parents and guardians to be more vigilant and monitor activities of their children.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a student recently committed suicide for failing to score high grades in the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

Reacting to the spate of the suicide of adolescents, Chief Adeolu Ogunbanjo, 2nd Deputy President of NAPTAN, told the NAN in Lagos that parents must pay more attention to their children to avert suicide tendencies.

He said the suicidal act was condemnable but the cause should be addressed.

“Honestly, it is very sad, very disappointing and yes it is very condemnable. But condemning it alone will not bring the solution; we as parents must be alert to stop this menace.

“Parents must be alert always to identify changes or any suicidal tendencies in their children.

“Children, especially undergraduates, need constant monitoring in order to avert any danger.

“Nowadays, many of us parents do not have time for our children anymore, we only worry about their upkeep but neglect the social life.

“When we talk of time, it is divided into two; normal time and quality time — and what our children need is quality time,” he said.

Speaking on the case of the undergraduate who committed suicide, the NAPTAN Deputy President said the incident might not be unconnected with the economic situation in the country.

He said the economic situation may lead to suicide, adding that ‘’one cannot rule out depression’’.

“It is not right for anybody to commit suicide for whatsoever reason but for a depressed person, they will not think that it is not right.

“A depressed person only acts on impulse,’’ Ogunbanjo said.

Speaking on students committing suicide because they failed JAMB, Ogunbanjo said failure was part of life and there was no success without failure.

Parental care is also very important for our children and quality time with them to check their class work, homework, and assignment, particularly at the primary and secondary school level.

He urged parents to spend quality time with their children and wards to put their children in check.

“Failure is part of success, failure makes you learn, it makes you know what to do next to succeed.

“But it is unfortunate that our youths will commit suicide because they failed JAMB examination.

“Parents have a lot to do, they should stop harassing their children over their performance in examinations.

“Parents should spend 15 to 30 minutes every day with their children to put them in check,“ he said.

Commenting on the case of the undergraduate who drowned in a swimming pool in Abuja recently, he urged the parents of the victim to pursue the case to a logical conclusion in order to serve as a deterrent to other students who may be contemplating such evil act.

The NAPTAN official described the act as an evil which should be condemned by all.

Ogunbanjo urged the state and the federal government to ensure that Nigerian youths were viably engaged to discourage them from involvement in vices.

We stang against suicide. We say NO to suicide.
Hello. Happy Tuesday and I hope everyone is well today. It’s a new day. Second day of the week.
I realized a lot of people are struggling to make end meet. There are people here who are tired and really needs things to happen quickly in their life. Some have some emergency needs, unexpected bills to take care of or maybe you need to find work, money, prosperity etc. If you are feeling like you are not making sales, money isn’t coming in, commission is low, you are a business owner and customers are not coming and you need to get your business up and running, it’s just sluggish slow and nothing is happening or even if things were going on well in your business and all of a sudden it has taken a sudden drop and you don’t know why this is happening or what to do. If that’s you, what you need is simply a money spell. Yes spell to attract money, job and customers. You don’t have to steal pants or shed blood when you can simply cast spells to attract money. It's very simple and easy effective money spell. I realize a lot of people where they live is not too conducive because they live with their family members, friends, spouse and there’s no privacy. Don’t worry, there’s still a way. It could be done on your behalf and you get your result wherever you are. dm me to get the highly effective ingredients to cast a money spell and any other spiritual materials you might need. order for your spiritual ingredients we way bill nationwide. also subscribe to our telegram channel to know more about our services and spiritual products. Parents should be close to their children and always encourage them. Children are encouraged to do the same.
Parents should guide their children to stay away all vices and wrong associates.

What steaming heap of rubbish.

Are parents the solution?

Look at that; the agency that’s supposed to handle depression doesn’t even know how handle depression!!!

No therapy, no counseling sessions, no programs to help those who have been able to fight depression to avoid relapse, no dedicated hotlines, no hospital you can run to for sanctuary when you feel the worst is near.

E say na parents.

This is what you get when someone who knows nothing about crisis management is appointed to manage crisis.
