MTN Nigeria Communications Plc went public on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) last week, and that came with a historic miracle that saw equities traded on the NSE jump by ₦1.9 billion on a single day.

The NSE, which has been on the downward spiral since the elections ended, rose to a milestone of 12.52 trillion naira. That was fuelled by the listing of MTN’s 20.35 billion shares, worth ₦1.83 trillion, and the frenzy it brought to the stock market.

The telecommunication firm came in with an unequalled streak that could see it top the nation’s list of most valuable brands in a very short while. One fact is the huge capitalisation it started with, then its performance in less than a week of going public has remained promising, exceeding expectations on all ends.
