To thine own self be true

Williams Shakespeare

A government that's not true to itself becomes a danger to itself.

We can almost all see that in this desperation to misrepresent facts and always defend illusions.

Africa, the burden of the world

if there was transparency from the start ,having the right people follow up when loans are given out , the output of this would be felt across the country but in Nigeria that's another means to steal

I will keep saying it, Nigeria is too populated people wise and too small land wise, to be a legitimate and sufficient agricultural farm land. The earlier they recognize this, the better. They should cut their loses, they have just given farmers a free grant and given some farmers money to import things.

Our way out is high tech farming like the asians and buying agricultural produce from trusted countries. That is our bitter truth.

Subsidizing agriculture would still make no economic sense even if corruption and incompetence weren't an issue: an obsession with eliminating all imports, even of things in which one has no comparative advantage, is as ridiculous as an in-demand musician turning down well-paying jobs so he can stay home and do all his own cooking, cleaning and ironing in the name of "avoiding waste". Such an approach betrays a complete lack of understanding of the concept of "opportunity cost".

That Nigeria also happens to suffer from endemic corruption and public-sector incompetence only makes an already terrible situation worse, turning what was already a waste of money into a black hole of destructive spending. Not that any of this matters to the true intended beneficiaries of the scheme - all those who will now get to "chop" their share of "national cake" through fraud and outright theft.

Well said

I sincerely hope Professor Osinbajo is reading this. After listening to Dr. Akinwumi and Peter Obi on this rice importation issue, I was surprised the Vice President still had a political opinion during his debate.
It's almost like Petroleum Products importation or the Energy sector - any system that works as designed will be seen to be working.

That is serious stealing, which when practiced by most people, plunges increasing number of people into extreme poverty. Hmm undecided

and the circle goes on and on till there's no loan to give but debtors to chase after with little or no collateral except word by mouth.
