A lady in her late 30s allegedly killed her baby boy during delivery in Abakaliki said the Ebonyi State Police Command on Wednesday.

According to the command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, the lady inflicted injuries on herself while trying to forcefully deliver the baby.

"The woman was currently receiving treatment at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki", She added.

Odah, who alleged that the woman wanted to deliver of the baby without the help of the doctor and outside the premises of the hospital, noted that the baby had already died in her womb before she was taken to the Hospital.

According to the PPRO, at the hospital, the woman refused medical treatment until police officers prevailed on her andthe hospital management to ensure that she was given proper medical attention.

She added that the police had ordered that she will remain in the hospital for adequate medical attention until she fully recovered, saying " By then, the matter will be transfered to the state police headquarters for further investigation. "
