The reason Swansea are in the English League along with Cardiff, Wrexham, Colwyn Bay, Merthyr Town and Newport is because, when these clubs were formed, there was no Welsh League, so their only option was to join the English League.

Although a League of Wales was formed in 1992, all these clubs were given the option to join but all declined.

UEFA has said that the only way these clubs can play in Europe is through the English League pyramid qualifying as would any other English team (FA cup winners, League cup winners, Title winners, Top four and Europa League qualifiers).

Originally, the Welsh FA were hoping they could get a place in Europe through the Welsh Cup but UEFA refused this.

The English Premiership is not the British Premier League and there are no clubs from Scotland and Northern Ireland in the English League. They have their own leagues and qualify for Europe through these.
