Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in this interview with TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI, speaks on last weekend’s judgment by the Supreme Court which voided the votes scored by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Zamfara elections. He also spoke on other issues of national importance. Excerpts:

What is your reaction to the Supreme Court judgment on Zamfara elections and the eventual declaration of your governorship candidate as the governor-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

It was a welcome development because the world was aware that APC did not follow its constitution; didn’t follow the Electoral Law and it did not also abide by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in arriving at its choice of candidate. So, it was expected that whatever votes APC garnered in the election will eventually end up as wasted votes and the next party in line, which happens to be our party, PDP will definitely inherit the outcome of the election. And that is exactly what has happened in Zamfara state. So, we are happy at the outcome of the judgment and we also rejoice with our candidate and the good people of Zamfara state.

With the development in Zamfara, do you see hope for your party in other states of the federation where it is seeking legal redress on the outcome of the elections?

We are very confident that our stolen mandates shall all be retrieved. We expect justice in Osun and in Kano. In Osun, the decision of the trial judge as far as we are concerned, addressed the issue of the matter. So, what happened in the Court of Appeal which has been appealed by our candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke and our party and we believed that at the end of the day, we will get justice at the Supreme Court. In Kano state, every Nigerian witnessed what happened on the day of the governorship election. PDP supporters were barred from participating in the election in some places; some were injured; there was threat to life, violence and outright manipulation of electoral process. But since the matter is still at the Tribunal, we will refrain from making comments until the court makes its pronouncement on it. So, we expect justice in Osun and Kano. Also, in the final analysis, we believe that our stolen mandate in the presidential election will be retrieved at the end of the day in the interest of Nigerians who troop out in their millions to cast their votes for our party and our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Well, I think Atiku ought to reclaim his mandate but I hardly see that coming, Nigeria as it is. Let us hope for the best and brightest for Nigeria. Things are hardly ideal.
