I have an innate passion for lecturing and wanna know if connection rather than merit would land me this job, currently doing my masters degree

You can't rule out connection especially in many public universities. Hard work is good but connection is better.

A senior lecturer at federal university used to tell me go get that PhD. When you get your PhD you're no longer a slave to anybody
