Here is a documentary of the effects of Civil War that claimed millions of lives within a duration of 3 years.

The Nigerian-Biafran War (6 July 1967 – 15 January 1970), was a war fought between the government of Nigeria and the secessionist state of Biafra. Biafra represented nationalist aspirations of the Biafran people, whose leadership felt they could no longer coexist with the Northern-dominated federal government.

The conflict resulted from political, economic, ethnic, cultural and religious tensions which preceded Britain's formal decolonization of Nigeria from 1960 to 1963. Immediate causes of the war in 1966 included ethno-religious riots in Northern Nigeria, a military coup, a counter-coup and persecution of Igbo living in Northern Nigeria. Control over the lucrative oil production in the Niger Delta played a vital strategic role.

Within a year, the Federal Government troops surrounded Biafra, capturing coastal oil facilities and the city of Port Harcourt. The blockade imposed during the ensuing stalemate led to mass starvation. During the two and half years of the war, there were about 100,000 overall military casualties, while between 500,000 and 2 million Biafran civilians died of starvation.

In mid-1968, images of malnourished and starving Biafran children saturated the mass media of Western countries. The plight of the starving Biafrans became a cause célèbre in foreign countries, enabling a significant rise in the funding and prominence of international non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The United Kingdom and the Soviet Union were the main supporters of the Nigerian government, while France, Israel and some other countries supported Biafra.

Hmmmm don't worry karma is moving round Nigeria. From Jos to borno,Adamaw,Taraba,Benue, and I heard it is camping in all the forest of the south. Do not threaten to defend yourself because it is pointless. We have cowardly cooked destruction of Nigeria for 53 years. The chicken is coming home brother, make a room for it.

Don't waste your breathe dear. His aim is to insult the memory of the dead. Even the 1 million children starved to death do not prick his heart. Don't let him drag you to his level. You are Igbo. You came from an egalitarian culture that abhors blood. He came from a primitive culture that do not understand sanctity of human life especially that of innocent civilians. Time will tell.

I don't blame you history isn't taught in Nigerian schools. It was Gowon led Nigerian government that attacked Biafra after the failing to honour the Aburi Accord he was signatory to. Today, they tell you Biafrans started the war. Lies from the pit of he'll.

You lack understanding of history you claimed. Ojukwu declared self determination and fully harmed his men. What is that please?

If only you will jettison prejudice and face the truth, you could see who triggered the war. Why did Gowon withdraw from the Aburi Accord he duly signed? Mind you that at the time tens of thousands of easterners were already killed in the north. You don't expect an endangered people to trust someone who can't keep to his words hence the eastern assembly mandated Ojukwu to declare Biafra. If you were in Ojukwu's shoe, what would you have done?

You did not grow up amongst the Yoruba people.

If you did, you will understand why Oduduwa & Obatanla were cast out of heaven.

Stop wasting your time explaining to this people. Explanation cannot cure hate.

Let the hate remain with them.

Some people's existence and relevance is tied to the Biafran hate propaganda. The old politicians who twisted the story to make it seem like it wasn't a war. As if the Biafran soldiers were sitting ducks, as if Ojukwu had no expansionist agenda..

They won't talk about the Abagana ambush where over a thousand Nigerian soldiers were killed while those captured were beheaded in broad daylight. They won't tell them about the Okene nd Auchi massacre.

They won't mention the fact that Ojukwu entered Portharcourt, controlled the land and seized Shell BP. They won't mention the fact that his fighter jets kept pounding other cities repelling the NNS Lokoja.

They won't mention his invasion into the mid west.

They won't mention the Okene and Auchi massacre and the Non Igbos killed in other the Midwest.

They won't mention the fact that Ojukwu deliberately prevented land delivery of food because he didn't want any physical inspection of supplies.

They will hide the fact that Ojukwu ordered the evacuation of villages in the east, knowing fully well that he couldn't handle the refugee crisis, his soldiers evacuated towns and villages, made easterners leave their homes without food, shelter and water.

They will hide the fact that Ojukwu ordered the capture of Ibadan and Lagos.

They want young Igbos to perpetually hate the country. They won't mention the atrocities committed by the Biafran soldiers.

Ojukwu started a war he wasn't fully prepared for. He knew the consequences.

The sad truth is that in this present day Nigeria, the Igbos have flourished better outside the south east. They are welcomed everywhere on the country, they own and control businesses in major towns.

Eze Ndigbo tussle in Kano..

The day the Igbos drop the sentiments about the war, their political relevance is gone. They don't have any story to latch on.

Obasanjo was a major actor in the war, why is he adored in the South East? All the actors on the Biafran side are heroes. Inconsistent stories...

The war happened, both sides lost. It wasn't a friendly affair, war is war.

Those drumming for war should know that there are no rules in war.

Promote unity, promote economic development, promote good governance.
