daddytime: It is no longer an idea, drivers have been receiving sms on their phone for traffic violations and are required to go to the appropriate traffic regulatory agency to pay or appeal. I think the automatic debit thing is yet to be rolled out. |

Good idea but this can't work here becos we don't have a standard data base that can back it up. |

The most sensible and cost effective solution, if we want to start the process of making Lagos a smart city, these are some of the logical and practical steps. Nations are now deploying technology to massively solve societal problems. By the time a driver turns a single lane to a double lane, by the time you beat the red stop light, and get an instant debit of N50,000, nobody will tell you not to obey traffic laws. Trust the yellow bus drivers to start covering their bus plate numbers. Let us see what Sanwo-olu does! |

stevedeey:listen to what he said, the vehicle owners account not necessarily the driver, if you own a car and you have a driver, if your driver contravenes the law, the money would be deducted from your account not your driver account |

What if there's no money in the bank account of the driver that broke traffic law? |

The idea of government collecting fines directly from bank accounts is a huge NO! NO! It is draconian and subject to abuse. Do it the American way. Hunt down offending vehicles and impound them until owner pays. And how does a state running an N800 billion budget spend N200 billion on CCTV? Come on, give us a break, biko! 1 Like |

Funny enough that what is obtain in other developed countries Dubai has the same policy and it's working perfectly But in nigeria a country without centralized data it's so impossible I'm yet to see that state in nigeria that will do data capturing of all its citizens for better improvement of lives. They won't do it The rigging of election will stop Those in govt profiting in ghost workers will not let it work and other factors That has been the bane of our under development in nigeria |

I disagree with this. To me the solution is to adopt a correctional strategy instead of money making strategy. Ticketing of 500 or 1000 should be given to traffic offenders depending on the weight of the offence. If a traffic offenders is found to have committed a traffic offence more than twice within a month, the license of such person will seized and returned after 6 months. Driving without license will be imprisonment. The reason the traffic problem is persistent is because traffic offence is moneytized. Minimum fine is 30k, an offender will rather settle the traffic officer or get strengthen his connection than to pay that huge fine. Lagos State government thought that by impose ng heavy fine on traffic offenders, it will make them take caution but they have forgotten that the teeming population are trying to survive everyday and won't want to miss target. In as much as Lagos State government is benefitting from the high population of people in Lagos, they should expect disobedience. Final solution is to start concentrating on building inter city train, doing this will make many car owners to drop their car at home.

Danfo owners or drivers dont have bank account not to talk of BVN, even the very few that may likely have an account will not be operating the account better still, they will always find a way to beat any traffic light and scale through. |
