Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, on Tuesday said those who looted the state treasury must be made to account for it.

Ihedioha, who was apparently referring to the immediate past governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, said the he would employ the services of security agencies to make sure that the state’s financial dealings in the last eight years were accounted for.

The governor spoke while declaring open the ongoing retreat organised for the state lawmakers-elect in Oguta Local Government Area of the state.

He said those who looted the state “must be criminalised.”

He claimed that his predecessor has yet to hand over to him.

He, however, assured all stakeholders that his administration would take responsibilities for its actions.

The governor said, “I will have to involve the services of security agencies in making sure that those who served the state must account for it.

“We will criminalise those who looted our treasury. They said I should begin, when nothing was handed over to me. We must make them to account.”

Ihedioha told the lawmakers that they were coming at time when the state was at a crossroads.

The governor said although the challenges of reconstructing the “badly battered state” were huge, they were not insurmountable.

He urged the lawmakers to join hands with him to deliver on his electoral promises.

Hopefully he follows through with his word and doesn't bow to political pressure. Okorocha's only escape is getting a perpertual injunction against investigation like former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili.

Beneficiaries of corruption are against Ihedioha. The money recovered from Okorocha and his cronies will be used to pay pensioners that are being owed arrears.

I believe the new governor is on the right track. How can you hit the ground running without a handover note? Anyone who thinks that the new governor should be quiet on Okorocha's misdeeds is making a mistake. There is nothing wrong with witch hunting if indeed you are in pursuit of known witch.
