Many African couples don’t know that there are quite a number of top honeymoon destinations in the world that are Visa-free to Africans.

If you’re interested in going on a honeymoon trip that doesn’t involve you stressing at any embassy then stick with me and let me take you through a list of the best honeymoon destinations for Africans.

1. BARBADOS

Barbados is a beautiful Island in the Eastern Caribbean, close to Puerto Rico. It was originally a British Colony, but gained her Independence in 1966. Barbados has always made the list of the best holiday destinations in the world. It also makes the cut as one of the islands with the most beautiful beaches and fantastic all year round weather. Barbados has two main seasons; Rainy Season from June to November and Dry Season from December to May.

1. The population of Barbados is predominantly black (92.4%)

2. English is the official language of Barbados and is used for all the Island’s communications, administration, and public services.

3. Bajans (Barbadians) are spiritual and religious conscious. They are also quite polite and thoughtful. They are known for their endless floods of greetings “Good morning”, “Good afternoon” and so on.

4. The Bajan culture has its origins from a blend of West African and British cultures.

5. Barbados gained full political independence from Britain in 1966, but still retains the traditional parliamentary democracy governmental style and remains a member of the Commonwealth of Nations.

6. The most popular sport in Barbados is Cricket.

7. The first popular music in Barbados is the Calypso, dating back to the 1930s. Modern Barbadian music now has influences of reggae, ragga and soca.

8. The national dish of Barbados is Cou-Cou and Flying Fish, coming in a close second position is Fishcakes and Saltbread is a close second, affectionately called a ‘bread and two’. Other popular dishes are Pudding and Souse (Saturday food), and Macaroni Pie, Rice and Green Peas, Baked Chicken and coleslaw (Sunday food).

9. Barbados is the official birthplace of rum, the oldest and greatest export of the Island. Mount Gay distillery – founded in 1703 – is believed to produce the oldest rum found anywhere in the world.

10. One of the only two functioning sugar windmills in the world is the Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill in Barbados. It is the last of the Barbadian windmills that were used to produce sugar. The Morgan Lewis Sugar Windmill last grinded sugar cane for commercial use in 1947. The windmill is now being maintained by the Barbados National Trust as a National monument and museum.

11. Barbados has one of the best quality sugar in the world. It became one of the largest producers of sugar in the late seventeenth century after sugar replaced tobacco as the major commercial export.

Barbados Sugar cane is not only processed for sugar but also energy (fuel cane).

May – August: Crop Over (Summer Festival)

The Crop Over is a celebration of the end of the Suarcane harvest. It is the largest and most important festival in Barbados. It is celebrated over several weeks (May 4th – August 5th 2019)). Activities include fairs, fetes, parades and contests. The grand finale is on the Kadooment Day where there is an explosion of colours, food and masqueraders dancing rhythmically to the pulsating beats of Calypso along the streets towards Brandons Beach on the Spring Garden Highway.
