Esperence were leading 1-0 at the time and players and officials of Wydad Casablanca appealed to the referee to review the goal using the Video Assisted Referee (VAR) system, but the system was not workin
g because an important component was missing. The referee was aware that the system was not working, but the players were unaware.

Wydad players subsequently walked off the field and Esperance were declared the winners of the match. The first leg had ended in a 1-1 draw and so Esperance were declared champions.

However, after a heated meeting in Paris today, the CAF Executive Committee has decided that the match should be replayed in a neutral venue.

It was held in Paris because FIFA delegates (including CAF Executive Committee members) are in Paris for the FIFA Congress ahead of the Women's World Cup.

They just re-elected Infantino as president of FIFA.
