Shame on all those that support Esperance and the decision of the referee last week. Almost 99% of nairalanders here commented and went against Wydad decision to a abandon the match saying what's their problem that the match can be done without a referee. Now they are saying the otherwise

They once thought of playing a single final game in a neutral venue, but that doesn't work in Africa (think of what Chelsea and Arsenal fans went through in Baku).

It is easier to travel between European countries than it is to travel between African countries. You can easily travel between European countries by train and you don't need a visa.

Furthermore, Europeans generally have more disposable income than Africans and they can easily afford to travel to watch matches in other countries.

CAF thought about having a single final, but they abandoned the idea after their experience in the African Super Cup. African Super Cup finals were often played in almost empty stadiums. The 1994 African Super Cup match between Zamalek and Al Ahly (the two biggest teams in Africa) attracted only 12,000 fans. The game was played in South Africa and both teams are from Egypt.

After that experience, CAF decided that Super Cup matches must be played at the home of the winner of the Champions League, in order to ensure that spectators come to the stadium.
Everything balls back to the lack of footballing spirit in Africa

Copa Libertadores of South America is played twice, home n away. Every confederation must not do it like europe
And this is one reason why European football has kept on dominating

Not lack of footballing spirit, but lack of development. No infrastructure, poor economy, poverty, etc. A person might be crazy about football, but you can't ask him to pay for airline ticket, hotel accomodation, transportation and match ticket when he barely has money to buy food or pay his kids' school fees.

A person might be crazy about football, but you can't ask him to travel to watch a match when travel conditions are attrocious. See how many tickets Chelsea and Arsenal returned ahead of the Europa Cup final.

Arsenal and Chelsea are to send back up to 6,000 unsold Europa League final tickets.

If the team that was declared winner and handed trophy and medals should go to court of competent jurisdiction, they may win.

money is the reason why European football dominates PERIOD.
We all Know Europe is the most advanced and richest continent in the world.

Asian CL has only one final as well but why aren't they dominating?

It's not by one final bro.

And they just might go to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in Switzerland.

The only sensible comment on this thread.

It's a wrong precedent to over rule the referee's decision on the field of play. The referee should have the final decision. Even though I support the use of VAR in football, VAR should only assist the referee and not take the place of the referee. Football had been played before VAR, and we had lived with bad decisions by incompetent, bias or corrupt referees for decades. It's all part of the game. If the referee erred, the referee can be banned or sanctioned, but the sanctity of the referee must be preserved.

CAF screwed up from the start
Why start a match when an important part of the game is faulty

Perfect decision. U cant rob a team and a nation in the name of sports. If u gonna win or lose... it should be fair. Footballers are humans too.

It's just sports and not a matter of life and death. Entertainment and sometimes errors are part of the entertainment. World cups had been won based on bad decisions.

What is evil there. I support the replay decision 100 percent. They use VAR in the first leg and yet the ref disallowed a goal and failed to award a penalty – both after consulting VAR.. Wydad did not complain.
Now that they scored their away goal in the second leg you all expect them to keep quiet when the refree disallowed it.

But England FA will still get home before any meeting!

I hope you know and they didn't tell us it's the same hotel they had the FIFA president program.

It's not too good

This is not an FA meeting. This is a meeting of a confederation. Many confederations often have meetings during FIFA congresses because it is an opportunity to get all the members of the executive committee in one place. These are busy men who also administer football in their various countries.

In fact, sports governing bodies like FIFA also take advantage of events like the Olympic Games to hold their meetings.

FIFA itself takes advantage of events like the World Cup, Women's World Cup, etc to hold its congresses because many members of football associations will be present in the same city for the event (for example, the FIFA presidential election was held in Paris because France is hosting the Women's World Cup).

It doesn't have to be in the same hotel, as long as all the members are in the same city.

Good decision taken at the wrong time. The match was meant to be abandoned the moment VAR was not working.

VAR didnt work in the first leg. So I'm in support of Wydad walking out.
