A lot of government security agencies get carried away by the power of their office, hence subject a lot of Nigerians to reckless abuse of Human Rights.

A young, hard-working and law abiding Nigerian citizen who carries on the business of Professional Photography, Videography, Musical Video Production, Editing and all other professional endeavours incidental thereto, Saudi Nasiru Ali aka Kozographa, was arrested by the EFCC recently and subjected to an unbelievable scale of human rights abuse.

The EFCC later discovered that said guy is innocent yet felt no remorse. The EFCC rather bid him farewell and said sardonically that "God saved you" after detaining him for days and after holding him out to the public as an internet fraudster.

As human rights lawyers, and in line with our firm's practice policy, we have resolved to represent the victim on a pro bono basis to secure remedy.

I have personally never imagined that such level of crudity and torture can be carried out by the EFCC. He has demanded for a reasonable 100m damages from EFCC and it is our hope that the EFCC will chat the course of honour.

We must make it abundantly clear that the EFCC is a construct of the law that cannot exist outside the legal purview of its establishing legislation.

The EFCC is a mere and ordinary governmental agency that is NOT above the law, hence it is ultra vires for it to take the form of a rogue agency devoid of legality and given to arbitral use of its powers.

We must stop security rascality in Nigeria.
