Most departments in Nigerian institutions pride themselves in this.

They go: in this department, nobody has ever graduated with a First Class.

And true to their words, they start designing your results with only Bs from year one.

Congratulations Victory... You did good!

It's the mor0nic belief that "the harder it is to get/achieve, the better the institution". Which is why 'University of Lagos that graduated over 240 first class is not better than UNN that has never graduated more than 100'.

Nawaoh.... My University has never produced first class in Accounting until this 2018/2019 academic year.... All those who ever came close were stopped at 4.49....

Please what's the name of the university?

bro4u:

My brother its everywhere, all the economics lecturers in all public universities are heartless and sadist, naso them dey drill us down here for uniuyo.

Uniuyo has always been horrible when it comes to awarding first class. Yet, Unilag is FAR ahead of the institution.

Congratulations sister.

Funny but True story. So it happened back in the days that my dad got admission in UNILAG to study Economics. The greatest difficulty they had was how to translate the word "economics" to his grandparents in Igbo language. After several days, my dad's elder cousin summoned courage to do the explanation.

He told the grandparents that my dad will be leaving house very soon to go and learn how to manage things and avoid wastes. Grandpa sighed, took his walking stick, and went into the house, came after some minutes and said

"He has always know that my dad will be a stingy man. How can he go and start learning how to be stingy when he doesn't even know if he will be rich.

Omo, the old man provoked and told Dad he shouldn't bother coming to the house again. That was how dad and his cousin prostrated and started begging the old man that that's not what they meant.

So I ask, what do you call Economics in Igbo language?
i graduated in this department in 2008. our econometrics in 300 level out of 120 students about 80 students had an E or D others f9 see the way we celebrated for having D

No she don't, she passed well and more recognition and better job is preferrable. If it was like that, then we need a system, except malpractice would be a do or die affair. To support education, we need better infrastructure, competent hands and a system free of malpractice. Education sponsoring and majorly providing jobs for graduates which is far a better alternative than dishing out millions to first class.

Well as I said earlier 'Education is not encouraged in Nigeria' She deserved far better than 10 Million Naira the moment we start channeling more efforts to encourage the best in academic the better for us.
Most of Nigeria company would rather endorse BBN Best than Best Graduating Student

Have a nice day.

Jealousy, envy and pride are the main cause of paucity of first class in many public universities

Probably you don't get it, past glory as used here means name or goodwill. Aside that the university publishes alot of researchable articles hence they keep topping.
