FYsol: Reasons 1. Muslim-muslim ticket 2. Tofa running mate was an igbo man. Ibb actually wanted a Christian from north central or north east to be abiola running mate. he warned abiola because they were friends. ibb is not a religious bigot. I did not support annulment of June 12 election. 1 Like |

millhouse: It easy math, While SE, SW and SS man keep small family of max 4 kids, Northern man still practice the old tradition of large family(Minimum of 4 kids from 1 woman and can have up to 3 or 4 wives). So do your progression and extrapolation over 30-40 years. |

I hope you also remember how Azikwe betrayed Awolowo then in First Republic when the duo has already agreed on Unitary Government but got betrayed while already in the meeting by accepting a FIGUREHEAD PRESIDENT while forming it with the Northerners.....? That's what made Awolowo to also think twice franchasng: 1 Like |

Falsified? Population of Osun State in accordance with 2006 population census was 0ver 4million people. That's 13years after 1993 elections. So Are u expecting 500000 votes from them or what? Also, Yorubas votes massively then because of MKO's philanthropy and cause of Awolowo being unable to become president... Base your assertion on Fact before you post Ibime: 1 Like |

The June 12 annulment by IBB can be seen as a show of defacto rule by he saved a friend and an elected president (MKO) being assassinated and a coup. I indulge us all to read more on "soldiers of fortune" by Max Siollun rather than relying on media propaganda. |

franchasng: That's unfortunate. Even if true, because there are many commas in this story. But even if true, why are most of the Igbos so unforgiving? They are the tribe that prides most in being christian and Chukwu everything. Is forgiveness not part of most Igbo's christianity? Why do they feel betrayed by everybody not on the same page with them? |

Abogwara:They were next to Lagos. In those days, Ondo(and Ekiti) had one of the highest population in the country. In fact, former Ondo State had the highest number of secondary and primary schools in the country. Cocoa and other cash crops were booming with people giving birth a lot to be engaged in farming. people from other regions also troupe in. There are also fertile land with lots of farm settlements to sustain the population. several large dams were built to pump water to every community. There were also other industries then... one of the fallout of increase investments in education, particularly in Ekiti is reduction in number of children, average 2 per family. 1 Like |

Ftom what I observed from the result, how did Kano managed to rise in population, look at Lagos and Kano in 1993 and 2019 vote strength. My observation though. |

stinggy:Awolowo had more Yoruba followership than any other Yoruba politician or even the then Western Governor Fajuyi. Awolowo had the power to influence the outcome of the 1967 events in Southwest, he wielded so much power and influence in Southwest Nigeria which was why he was jailed by Tafawa Belewa, and part of what pushed the young soldiers (from Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Kanuri, Ijaw, Bini, etc) to carry out the first coup of 1966 that was later wrong labeled as Igbo coup. Biafra soldiers didn't invade western Nigeria to kill or conquer, it was a plan initiated by a brave Yoruba officer fighting on the side of Biafra, as a way to end the war fast, so the few trained professional Biafra soldiers were deployed to capture Lagos the seat of power so that Gowon could relocate the Nigerian government to Kaduna and allow Biafra to go in peace. Mind you, this happened when Gowon mobilized Nigerian soldiers to attack Biafra from Calabar and Enugu, so Biafra soldiers decided to attack Nigeria from Lagos the seat of power. It was never meant to capture or kill Yorubas, at least a Yoruba man was the one heading that operation and there was no way he could have allowed the killing of his own people, which was also the reason he halted the advancement of Biafra soldiers and which made some Biafra military intelligence to accuse him and Ifeajuna and others of coup, and they got executed for that. 4 Likes 1 Share |

shugabasbn:My dear, u didn't read or know much about the war, you are writing based on hearsay. Grab some foreign books written by BBC, and other foreign war historians and reporters and read. I have answered the part that Ojukwu invaded Yoruba land to take over Lagos. It was never possible. A Yoruba man led that operation. Their intention was to capture Lagos Nigeria's seat of power then and force Gowon to move his government to Kaduna and allow Biafra to go. Ojukwu never declared war on Nigeria. Ojukwu as Eastern Nigeria's Military Governor, who was like the President of Eastern Nigeria, declared that Biafra (Eastern Nigeria) is now an independent nation of its own, and you know why he did it 1966 northern pogrom caused the declaration of Biafra, google it pls. Igbos never had intention of seceding from Nigeria if not for the 1966 pogrom! After the 1966 counter coup that led to the killing and removal of Nigeria's head of state Ironsi who happens to come from Igbo tribe, Northern Nigerians saw it as an opportunity to wipe out the whole Eastern Nigeria (comprising Igbo and today Niger Delta region), so they started killing Igbo civilians living peacefully in the north for no just reason. Bodies of Igbo children, pregnant women, youths, elderly were being returned in trucks in thousands from northern Nigeria when there was no war oh, Ojukwu called Gowon and told him to please do something and stop this killing of Igbos in the north by Northerners, Gowon did nothing but watched it continue getting out of hand. Ojukwu as the leader of Eastern Nigeria summoned all Igbo and Niger Delta leaders, students, stakeholders at UNN Nsukka asking them what to do, they told him that they want to leave Nigeria to avoid further killings by people they call fellow countrymen, so they encouraged Ojukwu to declare Eastern Nigeria freedom from Nigeria. This led to negotiations between Biafra and Nigerian side, they even went to Aburi Ghana, and they reached agreement that Nigeria should become a solely independent regions governed by each regional leader, kind of USA arrangement, Gowon agreed but on his return to Nigeria, British Government and Northern Oligarchs refused and told him not to agree to the terms signed at Aburi accord for Biafra to return peacefully and Gowon declared Police action against Biafra to return Biafra back to Nigeria and Gowon mobilized Nigerian army to invade Biafra land and bring them back. Biafra was never prepared for war, but when Nigerian soldiers invaded Biafra, Biafra had to quickly mobilize commando soldiers and volunteer soldiers to defend Biafra land, and that was how the war started and Biafra began to develop her own army, Police, government, currency, refineries, military wares, airport, everything on emergency level. My point is, Ojukwu did not declare war or invaded Nigeria....he only defended Biafra from Nigerian offensives after he made the declaration of Biafra freedom from Nigeria as a result of the 1966 pogrom the Nigerian Head of State Gowon refused to stop or address. If you also observe today, Northerners are fond of killing civilians anytime they wish for even useless reasons, so u can see the connection...Igbos don't tolerate that like other southern tribes, that's why they hate Igbos so much....Igbos always challenge their bad behaviours and quest for dominance. That is why some people today believe that Boko Haram and the crises between farmers and Herders in Jos, Benue, Taraba is not ordinary...they believe its a natural payback by nature for the evil Middlebelt and Northern states committed against innocent civilian Igbos living peacefully in Northern Nigeria in that 1966 northern pogrom (google and read about it) 5 Likes 1 Share |

Image123:My brother, such forgiveness take a long period of time....almost every family in Igbo land lost a breadwinner or a shinning star in that unfortunate war of 1967 - 1969 which was never supposed to have happened. Even Israelis, the Jews especially today have not fully forgiven Germans and Arabs, its not as easy as you think. And Nigerian Presidents since 1970 - 1999 didn't try at all in pacifying Igbos in their huge loss during the war, rather they capitalized on the gains they made against Igbos during the war to further marginalize Igbos and had secret agenda to make Igbos pauper and slaves in modern Nigeria, which Igbos deferred through their hardwork and smartness and talent. You know what I am talking about brother. 2 Likes |

babyfaceafrica:They are more neutral, and they had unfettered access to both Nigerian and Biafran government sides back then to know the truths....and they stand to gain nothing siding for any side in their books after the war. If we had courageous young soldiers in Nigeria today, believe me, with the incessant killings by Fulani militants killing Middlebelt people, Middlebelt soldiers would have summoned courage to attempt a coup or revenge attacks, which may result to war....it was the same thing that led to Nigerian civil war in 1967. Northern Nigeria must learn to stop killing of people from other tribes....this is always the cause of every civil war all over the world, its just that youths and soldiers of today don't have liver again....everybody is after money, entertainment and merriment even when their people are being killed, forgetting that after their people are wiped out, the enemy will then face them squarely and finish them up in a matter of seconds. 3 Likes |
