Antoine Griezmann will sign for Barcelona this summer, Atletico Madrid’s CEO, Gil Martin, has confirmed.

According to him, the club knew Griezmann would be joining their La Liga rivals since March. “We know since last March that Griezmann is going to Barcelona,” he told to Sport.

It was reported last month, that Griezmann informed Atletico that he will deposit his €120m release clause in July.

The player’s release clause is currently €200million, after he signed a new contract with Atletico just last summer.

However, that figure drops to €120m euros from July 1. Griezmann is expected to sign a five-year deal at the Nou Camp.

Griezmann should not have moved to Barcelona. As long as Messi is still around, he won't get to play and influence matches like he did at Atleti. Neymar, before his switch was Santos main man and played a tiny fraction of Barcelona's decider. Dembele has gone that way despite being the biggest Neymar replacement.

Coutinho who troubled Liverpool just to get away to Barcelona is now being discussed at the Board's roundtable and would likely be relegated to the bench if he doesn't get offloaded.

Griezmann won't know what hit until a campaign is over. It is strange how Barcelona who boasted the famed La Masia and arguably the second best after Ajax youth system could decline over the years in making poor transfer choices.

Messi's retirement would see Barca fans think their club is Girona if things continue this way.
