Reasons Why No Past Head Of State Attended The June 12 Democracy Day Celebration by Venom236: 8:10pm On Jun 13, 2019
OBASANJO – Having lost the last election as the kingmaker of the PDP saw it as a humiliation that the Buhari administration did what he failed to do as President for eight years.

JONATHAN – Was going to attend but was quoted as saying “he was afraid of Obasanjo”, hence his reason not to attend June 12 celebrations.

BABANGIDA – Who annulled the June 12 elections and has not been sighted at any public function for years feared the backlash that would trail his action and decision 26 years ago.

GOWON – Who gracefully attended the inauguration ceremony on May 29 fell ill and was unavoidably absent.

SHONEKAN – Who largely benefitted from the 1993 election knew that Nigerians will mock him for his role in ensuring MKO Abiola was denied his mandate.

ABDULSALAMI – Did not attend the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations because the elected president (MKO Abiola) who died under questionable circumstances under his watch.

The truth is that none of the past Presidents or Head of States can do anything about June 12 as Democracy Day. The man who they have called names and labeled as dictator is the one who re-wrote the history books and restored honour to Nigeria. Plus, he has also strengthened our democracy.
