Fela: the authorised biography First published in 1982, Fela: This Bitch of a Life is the authoritative text on the life and times of Africa's greatest ever musician. In just under 350 pages, the reader is invited to the living room of Fela’s iconoclastic mind, discovering from the inside the key turning points in his life – his childhood in Abeokuta and the forceful influence of his parents, especially his mother; student life in England; his coming to black consciousness in America (and his encounters with Funk and some of the key players in African-American musical and political culture); his return to Nigeria and setting up the Shrine and Kalakuta Republic and his increasingly painful struggles with the authorities in Nigeria in the 1970s and 1980s. Reading about Fela brings to life post-Independence African history in all its turbulence and drama. The book also includes interviews with some of Fela’s wives, allowing the reader to get an intimate perspective on Fela as a husband and as a lover. Ikedonn:  Relax OP, Skybunk is obviously skyHIGH right now and he is thinking Fela will answer the question. Actually those cars are NOT exactly in the same world BUT it shows you have some good taste in vehicles BUT If you must buy the Avalon, you should take it to the max. and get the 00/01 Lexus ES or GS, its about the same budget for the toks and it gives you the comfort you would be needing for that class. For the Mercedes, considering the specified year, I think the C Class fits in properly as the E Class might appear bogous. Comparing the two now, In terms of maintenance, you will be running the two at the same average cost - even though the engine size will determine the fuel consumption, the parts are basically going to cost the same ( The C Class might be a bit more expensive though). In terms of luxury - The lexus (Or the Avalon) beats the mechanical interior of the C-Class (At least for that model). But for ruggedness, the Mercedes is your car. So it depends on what you really want - Flash or Substance. I would go for the Benz (For substance). |
