The state of insecurity in the country has prompted the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, to begin urgent plans to install “closed-circuit television (CCTVs) and other cutting-edge technologies in major cities in the country for city surveillance”.

Adamu made the disclosure on Monday while reviewing the security situation in the country for the past one month with senior police officers in Abuja.

In addition to installing CCTVs, so as to enhance the fight against criminality, the IGP disclosed that there are “plans directed at re-organising and re-launching the Safer Highway and Safer City Models of Policing which will entail the acquisition of new fleet of vehicles that will be deployed to dominate the public space”.

Hope it comes to fruition this time around.
We've been hearing this since 1999. (20 years ago!).

This is how sane country operate.
CCTV is not about catching criminals alone, but,
People having the knowledge of a camera looking at what they do alone, mind whatever evil plan they want to perpetuate and 'behave normal'!

Nigeria will be great again.

You don't start building a house from it's roof, you start from the foundation.

CCTvs is not the first step, such can't work in a country like this.

You just want to waste the country's limited resources again, you fcktaaards!

This country is moving back in time, we're still stuck in 1915.

Nobody come get common sense in all this people wey dey at the top. Such a pity

Cosmetic. You are giving us CCTV camera so that we can be watching home video of the criminal activities which your failed economic policies have created. You better create DSTV channel join am make we watch subscription free. grin

Meanwhile, the contract for the purchase of the CCTV cameras will cost 2 billion naira and it will be awarded to one ALHAJI GWORO MUMUNI who is the 19th child of the 23rd wife of the Emir of Monguno grin

After 2 weeks, the cameras will just pack up and the story will end there.

Politics of a-bokinomics 101.

Na so. Budget N20Bn to install cctvs, use 1bn to install cctvs, after a year or two cctvs will decay out of lack of maintenance. 20bn don go.

This statement just shows the level of IQ the people heading this country have.

Procuring CCTV is a welcome development. I hope they use it well.

On the other hand, methinks that the FG should procure body cameras for all officers. That way, the flagrant abuse of power by the police will cease.
