The news of Ghanaian authorities demonising Nigerians living in the country is becoming alarming, and one could only fear that it might provoke a retaliation Ghana will forever regret.

The two countries couldn’t have forgotten the 1983 ‘Ghana Must Go’ movement when Nigeria expelled two million undocumented West African migrants, half of whom were from Ghana. No one will also forget about the sturdy, checked bags into which they packed their belongings, which have now become a symbol of exclusion and intolerance. Barely four decades later, the Ghanaians are fuelling another drum of tension from undue intolerance.
