The race to launch insanely fast charging technologies is heating up. While many smartphones these days support some sort of fast charging tech, most of them still take almost a couple of hours to charge fully.

However, many Chinese smartphone makers don’t have enough patience for this. After OnePlus, Huawei, Oppo and Xiaomi, it’s now the turn of Vivo to throw in its hat in the ring.

Vivo has announced that it is working on an outrageously fast 120W fast charging technology that it calls Super FlashCharge. It may not roll off the tongue as smoothly as Dash/Warp Charge, but its insane speeds more than make up for it.

Back in March, Xiaomi had showed off its 100W fast charging technology in a video. While this tech is still far from final, the company still has something to show off. Other Chinese smartphone makers like Huawei, OnePlus and Oppo have also revealed their respective fast charging technologies – Huawei has 55W on the Mate X, OnePlus has 30W on the OnePlus 7 Pro while Oppo has 50W on the Find X.

Vivo’s announcement revealed that its 120W Super FlashCharge technology can fully charge a 4,000mAh battery in just 13 minutes. This tech can charge the same battery up to 50% in just five minutes. To put things into perspective, you could essentially charge your phone up to 50% in the time it takes to brush your teeth.

While Vivo’s announcement did not include any other major details or evidence, the company stated that it will show it off along with its first 5G phone at MWC Shanghai 2019 next week. It is worth noting that these insanely fast charging technologies are still more theoretical than practical, and will have to undergo several tests and optimizations before they make it to final products.

Nevertheless, it’s exciting to think about your phone charging completely in just 13 minutes.

Exactly. Hope they consider the battery's lifespan if per chance it does not explode
