This is how the leaders that have created the greatest civilizations in the world commute to work. They built nations that Nigerians are willing to risk their lives through the Sahara desert and Mediterranean sea to get to.
On the other hand the leaders that turned their country to the poverty capital and made their nation the biggest shithole in the world through their epidemic and massive corruption move with a battalion of security guards to protect them from the masses they reduced to penury and cannibalism.

Op,
I disagree. That they commute to work on the pictures displayed doesn't mean that is the norm for them.

It is the norm in any western society except USA. Even a mere Local Government Chairman has more cars and armed security in his convoy than a Minister in Holland or Canada and the Speaker of Parliament in both countries.

Why does a Governor,Speaker or Minister in the poverty capital of the world need a 60 car convoy. In Western societies only the President or Prime Minister has traffic cleared for him to pass through. In Nigeria even a mere Local Government Chairman or Commissioner has armed soldiers and policemen clear traffic for them

You are the poverty capital of the world and with fantastically corrupt leaders who are world renown. We have to use our resources wisely on the remaining 99% of the population, oil won't be relevant in the world stage for long.
We can't keep spending billions of naira on 0.01% of the population who are the the political class, who still loot the country blind and make themselves the highest paid in the world.

Is that an excuse for having government officials ranging from Local Government Chairman to Governors having 8 - 50 car convoys in the poverty capital of the world?

Yes o. That's how citizens have been thought to think in Nigeria; to make excuses for their leaders and oppressors. OP better be careful before they call you wailer, hater or any other fancy names.
Here the leaders are benefactors and gods who must not be questioned. We the citizens are foot mats and we should be grateful if they acknowledge our existence with a hiss. Kudos man!! You're a true Nigerian citizen

Murtala was assassinated by his own; the military. I can assure you if the military want to take out a president or governor, this long line of convoy can't stop them. This convoy exists to keep the governor safe from robbers, kidnappers, assassin and troublesome citizens. The question now is what is keeping you as the citizen safe from these

Oyibo have gone too far, that's why they are called advanced countries and many of them (countries) are really rich.

For African/black people, whether home or abroad, they think that by showing off material wealth or wearing expensive things, that they will command respect but it only magnifies their folly.

Just know that your respect comes from your brain power, thought process, ideas, inventions, leadership, development, how you influence the world positively, ingenuity, etc. We can't be at the bottom and pretending to be at the top. That's self deception.

Only few Africans/blacks have commanded this respect but it should rather be a majority and a collective tendency rather than few.
