It depends on who we get in the draw. Normally it doesnt make sense to get to get a defender for just half a season when we are not Mourinhos Chelsea who bought Maniche because Essien was going to miss a match. We already have Boateng, Dante and Badstuber

But What would determine is one the number of games Boateng gets suspended for and who our opponent is.

if we get a weak team we wouldnt need and can risk Van Buyten and Dante or draft martinez/Gustavo into defence for Celtic, Galatasaray, Arsenal etc

Well we do not know who we would draw and the transfer window would be open right between now and the 2nd round tie! I actually think we are fortunate because the timing of the injury has given us time to fix it

We could get Lucio if he isn't cup-tied. All things equal this could be Van Buyten's last season at Bayern anyway so I see it as a way of killing two birds with one stone and we could probably get a long-term replacement for him
