How Nigeria Can Reclaim Her Lost Respect Among The League Of Nations by olukosiibitoye: 3:55am On Jun 26, 2019
Unlike the wake of Independence when many countries across the earth respected and expected her to rise in no distant time to occupy her divinely ordained role of a giant in Africa and the world, Nigeria is now a laughing stock among the League of Nations. There is hardly any place Nigerians appear (both the good and the bad) that they will not be treated with suspicion or worst still, disdain, given Nigeria has no reverence factor like the United States and the United Kingdom.

Put differently, Nigeria commands less respect internationally –she is perceived in a negative light and this perception is affecting the way Nigerians are treated by their foreign hosts right from when they get to the airport. There was even a time that an erstwhile British Prime Minister, describe Nigeria as fantastically corrupt, to show how she has become an object of ridicule that anyone can just use to make fun. And this is not to even mention the famous Robert Mugabe’s offensive remark “Are we now like Nigeria where you have to reach into your pocket to get anything done” of 2014, as well as the much harassment and persecution Nigerians face outside the country.
