The last has not been heard on last Friday?s bomb attacks in Abuja during Nigeria?s independence anniversary celebrations which killed 12 persons and injured 36 others, as the Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC), an umbrella of major militant groups in the Niger Delta yesterday said former military president, Ibrahim Babangida, contacted it to carry out the bomb attacks.
In an electronic mail to Daily Champion by Bakabio Walter, JRC?s spokesman, the group alleged that the attacks were carried out by Henry Okah with the support of IBB, and that the aim was to assassinate President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo among other top government officials.
However, IBB reacting through his spokesman, Kazeem Afegbua, said: ?That is a blatant lie. General IBB is too disciplined and patriotic to be drawn into this deliberate blackmail. Please ignore them.?
Part of the group?s statement said: ?While we were reflecting on the journey so far, some counter revolutionary elements launched two terrorist attacks in Abuja that took the lives of several innocent people and claimed it was for the Niger Delta struggle. Our intelligence report revealed that those attacks were planned by Okah and executed by the terrorist group he formed with the support of Babangida.
?It was formed with the sole aim of fighting against President Jonathan should he forge ahead with his plan to contest in 2011 poll.
?The attack had two main goals. Firstly, to assassinate Jonathan, Sambo and others in the line of succession who were all present at the golden jubilee celebrations at Eagle Square.
?Secondly, if the President and those in the line of succession survive the attack, the insecurity arising from that would be used as excuse for the military intervention.?
JRC took a snipe at those claiming to be members of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), saying they are not, as MEND was disbanded after all of their leaders accepted the federal government?s offer of amnesty.
It said: ?The attacks were a mercenary job done on behalf of Babangida and his cohorts. We know this because we were approached earlier by agents of IBB to carry out attacks in the Niger Delta and Abuja to demystify Jonathan and show that he does not have the support of his people, but we declined.
?It was because of this that we suspended our armed campaign this year. We realised that IBB was going to use our genuine agitation to his own selfish, unpatriotic and over ambitious advantage. It was when we declined that they approached Henry Okah who is a mercenary by nature, and they started with the Warri bomb blasts followed by the anniversary attacks. For now we can say authoritatively that Okah heads IBB?s terror machine and they are more sophisticated than what they have done so far.
?The recent events in the politics of the Nigerian state further expose the ethnic and national contradictions and justify our agitations for self determination and call for a sovereign national conference of all the nationalities that were forcefully conscripted into Nigeria. This is the only peaceful way of getting out of this barbarism that is threatening to create the biggest refugee problem in the world,? the group said.
It warned politicians not to ?drag our region and its genuine struggle into their muddy water of politics. Also, those who are planning to organise a coup de?tat should know that they would have us to contend with as we will never allow their authority to extend into our region. We are watching keenly as the drama unfolds, knowing that after this mad dance of macabre we shall meet at the barricade.?

@Poster, Source please!

I tried to do a search on Google for this article, and could not come up with anything but this very one on nairaland. Please post the source as I would like to understand how come it took them this long to release such a statement IF TRUE. Everything just seems really really wrong with the sudden admission above.

JRC Blames Dissident Elements of MEND

The Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC) has described Friday's bombing as "the handiwork of a son of the devil with active connivance of disgruntled dissident elements from one of the camps of a former MEND leader who has since relinquished leadership in the former MEND structure."

Spokesperson of the JRC Cynthia Whyte, in a statement yesterday, condoled with "all men of goodwill and the entire citizenry on the callous and gruesome murder of more than 15 people and the injury inflicted on many others."

She said "Our struggle is a moral and just one. We have had no place for gun-runners, toddler-abductors, bank robbers, commercial hostage-takers, prison breakers and bare-face murderers who go on foolish murderous rampage while their families are safe and secure in foreign lands."

According to her, "An email address alone does not represent MEND. In a few days that email will no longer be usable. What must be done will be done immediately. Terrorism is not a virtue for heroic combatants in the Ijaw and Niger Delta struggle."

She said "Millions of young men in the Niger Delta today possess the ability to deploy acts of unlimited violence on the Nigerian State. However, these men have decided to keep the peace because they cannot claim to be more Ijaw or more Niger Deltan than Goodluck Jonathan. They have given him the benefit of doubt and have pledged to work with him and guide him on his efforts in the Niger Delta."

She said the Central Command of the Joint Revolutionary Council will soon confer with Mujahid Dokubo-Asari to arrive at a final decision on the matter.

If you listen carefully, you will hear the voice of the original Jomo Gbomo in the above writeup. Colourful use of words and hard hitting.

bunch of fair weather pros-titutes

whatever grouses i may have with ibime - he at least stands true to his beliefs and convictions

small wonder the nd has been shafted for all these years

in the end, they and their so called leaders stand for nothing but the moment

Its a joke that these lot say they have no space for child abductors whilst Ateke is in their midst.

Meanwhile the killing of Soboma George seems designed to eliminate him before his Godfather Odili turns him loose for elections.

As for claims that IBB approached them to carry out his dirty work, yeah right. Which of these disparate groups did IBB approach? This group have only started speaking coherently since Jonathan flew them all to Abuja on Presidential Jet.

The game between Jonathan and IBB is getting ugly. Nigeria will reap the whirlwind.
Re: Nigeria - We Rejected Ibb Lobby To Bomb Abuja Ex - Millitants by Goddex: 4:17pm On Oct 07, 2010
IBB did hold meetings with militants but whether or
not bombing Abuja was an item on the agenda . . .

GEJ doesn't talk carelessly, from his days as deputy gov, gov, VP and even President.
Having him talk that much meant he had got vital info at his disposal.
Let's wait.

I think it is time to start asking these newspapers how they actually came by their information. Why is this group, if true, revealing this almost a week after the fact?

Yesterday you were defending Aljazeera on Henry Okah Illogical Accusations, you said Aljazeera is somehow right, almost everytime we are discussing the issue of Jonathan, you are always against him, Now that some Ex-millitants says they rejected the offers of IBB to Bombed FCT you said we should start asking the media houses the source of their news because its been a century since the bomb blast occured, Then we should as well forget Zoning since its been a MILLENIUM since they signed the agreement which i dont even believe existed in the first place.
Kobo, try to value your Credibility.

Please Holy JTF why didnt you guys issue this statement before the bombing or immediately after the bombing?
Why all these craps jst after a coffee with the president? The whole world is watchingooo

Jonathan should atleast honour the death of the bomb victims by conducting a proper investigation on who is behind all these, why playing politice with the whole issue.

This makes more sense. . .First of all why did IBB pick odili as his running mate?

everyone in Nigeria knows that odili is the father of militancy in Nigeria

How come there is no other responsible person from the Niger Delta IBB could choose?

Secondly this narration actually makes more sense

Its laughable that the likes of Kobojunkie will be holding brief for common criminals and mass murderers like IBB,HENRY OKAR and PETER ODILI

I mean who would have thought?

anyway we will know the truth in due course

I hope when okah is linked to mercenaries in south Africa, the same naysayers will not come out and start talking rubbish

everyone with half a brian should know that the political enemies of the GOVT of the day carried out the bombing

Just like bombs have been going off in Bayelsa state in the fight btw the Governor and deputy

IBB aka Independence Bomb Blast is at the very least privy to this plot

That is why he was the only ex-president absent @ eagle square, together with Atiku

They will be disappointed come May 29 2011 cause not one of them will be sworn in not Atiku, not IBB,not Gusau, and definately not Saraki(who loves zoning in Abuja but not in Kwara)

heck, Johnnie goodluck called henry okah a mass murderer yet he is breaking break with those timpolos etc

Alameigha is now in the picture

the divide between north and south has never been this blatant!!!

Goodluck Jonathan and the SSS didnt not have any text messages when his house was blown up years ago in bayelsa

Goodluck and the SSS didnt have any 'na we do am' text message when cars were bombed in Warri or was it delta last year now voila! they intercept all the text messages in nigeria excluding those of nysc kidnappers

what an amateur! all in all J Goodluck can be a hero if he can get rid of IBB once and for all!

Why these people think say we get chicken brain? If the criminal militants actually came out today to fabricate this lie in order to help GEJ,then I can as well conclude that his political carrier is over.I wish I were in GEJ's team,I would have handled this issue better and easier.

Which North and which south?. . .is it the benue,Plateau,Taraba North?. . .or the Lagos,Akwa Ibom and Enugu south?. . .abeg make we hear word

For your Info. . .the south west dont care about this presidency issue, the middle belt dont care either

so its btw the SS.SE.NW and NE zones to battle it out and those zones(SE.NW.NE) are pretty much fluid and can go to anyone

As for Timpolo. .Yar adua met with them in the state house so your arguement is null and void
Nowadays all we hear in america is that amnesty is working and the oil production has jumped. . pushing up Nigerian growth
anything that maintains the peace process is a positive to me,and most Nigerians

How do u explain the security Intelligence got from the foreign partners?
This issue is more serious than u are making it out to be. . .

bombings in warri or bayelsa do not usually reach UK or USA intelligience dont u think?

so refrain from making a fool of yourself with your irrational postulations

U wish. . .Its unfortunate that instead of Nigerians to be worried about finding out who is responsible for detonating a bomb in their capital
they are busy worrying about what GEJ said or didnt say

The pertinent question to ask is did okah set up a new terrorist group in the delta and was he funding them from SA?
If so then were they paid by Nigerian politicians to carry out the attacks in other to cover their own(politicians),dirty tracks?

If that happened as well who are these politicians?

and why was IBB the only living ex-president who refused to be in Abuja that day?

If this was a case of where someones wife was murdered like its so often in the USA,i will tell u that alarm bells would have been ringing to prosecuters for the bizzare action of IBB
Usually when a wife is killed the husband is responsible 90% of the time
In this case in Nigeria during elections,if there is political violence in the run up to elections, the opponents are usually responsible for the violence 99% of the time

why is it so hard to grasp, and why are we beating around the bush on this issue. .

yes yaradua meet with them but more of a take this check and feck off than this johnnie boy militant campaign

You mean the text messages are from foreign partners you are basically saying jonathans revamped security arrangement

according to you Jonathan is not interested in probing the bombings in Warri and bayelsa because the international community cant help? lord have merrcyyyyyyyyy!!

oh ok so Yaradua says take the cheque and fk off. . u are basically saying Yaradua had no plans to develop the region
Now jonathan has a comprehensive amnesty plan, with job training and developmental help from overseas in the likes of the recently signed US-NIGERIA Bilateral commission

Now why would MEND bomb an Abuja under Jonathan, but didnt bomb it during OBJ or Yaradua?. . see your logic stands on its head

The more logical explanation is that okah is a terrorist and mercenary who is available for the highest bidder. . and was used by politicians in Nigeria to discredit the GOVT at the centre

As for warri and Bayelsa bombings,Jonathan was not responsible for probing that cause he was not in charge of the Govt at the centre then
warri happened during the yaradua saga in january, and Bayelsa happened during yaraduas time or OBJs time

and yea we need International help cause this is an international conspiracy. .and besides Nigeria is not used to terrorist attacks, plus if u must blame blame past GOvts and the NASS(who have refused to pass the anti-terrorism bill presented to them by Jonathan),not the new guy that was just sworn in 5months ago
