Our decision to embrace you as a target group is for the simple fact that you constitute a larger percentage of the population, coupled with the fact that the food security of the nation rests squarely on the shoulder of farmers.
BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK JUN 25, 2019

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has attributed the consumption of illicit drugs by herdsmen as a reason nomads invade farms and destroy crops.

Armed herdsmen are reportedly responsible for 3,094 deaths in Nigeria since 2018.

Col. Muhammed Abdallah (rtd), NDLEA Chairman said at the agency's sensitization campaign in Abaji Area Council of the FCT on Tuesday that ignorance on the part of the herdsmen led to the consumption of drugs.

He said, "Our decision to embrace you as a target group is for the simple fact that you constitute a larger percentage of the population, coupled with the fact that the food security of the nation rests squarely on the shoulder of farmers. We need to create a critical mass from the farmers and hunters by increasing their stake in the Drug-Free Nigeria Project."

"It is in furtherance of the Agency's all-inclusive and shared responsibility approach to curbing the drug menace."

"We in drug control are concerned about the high rate of drug abuse among farmers, hunters and herdsmen, a development that has often diminished their productivity and has negatively affected their health and life span." Study has revealed that ignorance of the grim implications of drug abuse has led farmers and hunters into believing that drugs can energize them to withstand the stress of their work whereas reverse is the case.

"The implication of the unfortunate involvement of farmers, hunters and herders in drug abuse is enormous. Some researchers have attributed the persistent clash between farmers and herders to drug abuse."

"For instance, under the influence of drugs herders lose control of their stock which often invade farms to destroy crops. The resultant effect is the bloody feud between the parties. Cattle equally become very aggressive when given certain drugs to make them strong to cover distances and in the process they invade farms."

If there is any group of people who have so many powerful people in govt who continuously make excuses for their criminal behaviour, it has to be these useless fulani.

From climate change, drought, overpopulation, cross border bandits to now self drug abuse, there seems to be no excuse so shallow by the Fulani herdsmen apologist that is not insensitive to our ears.

There is no problem rather what you are witnessing is Fulani expansionist ambition that has been given a major boost and activation since Buhari became president.

The Fulani want to occupy all lands in Nigeria that is the real issue and not some literal bull sh!t cow grazing rights.

Farm vandalization by the Hausa Fulani is a deliberate economic strategy. If the South are able to sustain their farm produce where will the North sell her produce. It’s a planned out strategy and highly criminal in nature. Every Hausa farmer is targeting Southern Market to sell their farm produce.

Why i am so upset is that the Northerners receives all possible government supports and incentives in their farming practice while the South receives absolute none, Yet we go into farming business with our hard earned money or loans all for the Fulani herdsmen to come and destroy it.

Let me tell you something, there will be no settlement as Ruga in the SW because we want to plant the grass and sell to the North too the cows are not free in our market

How can you be under the influence of illicit drug and control about 200 cattle’s from Ogun state to maiduguri by foot and not one of your cattle found missing. Somebody must be getting high on something here its not ther herdsmen but the NDLEA boss is getting high on suck-away

If he knows the Fulani herdsmen are illicit drug abusers, why is he not raiding their camp and conducting a search and arrest?

You did not get my point.

What is anybody's business on how, where or when the Fulani graze his cows?

If there is drought up north and population explosion that leads to competition for land to graze cows in the north, how in God's name is it anybody's problem? It is the fulanis problem and he is trying to foist his problems on you by invading and trespassing on your land. That alone is enough to get one shot in Texas.

My issue is that whatever constraints the Fulani is going through isn't mine or anybody's for that matter!

To even begin to address their plight is to play into their ransom and blackmail.

Nigerians in the diaspora are suffering because of the bad eggs that go about damaging our reputation. Is it right to paint everyone with the same brush? If you believe all Fulani's are guilty of the same crime then you are saying that all Nigerians are crooks.

I don't blame you at all. It is the stupid FG that is creating a monopoly environment to these goat farkers. Let them fling the borders open for beef imports abeg. We have easy market solutions like allowing competition to thrive by allowing beef and pork imports. The politicians in south and middle belt never bring it up since they're not interested in market solutions. The FG and states are partnering to built them settlements but it's never disclosed how much the end users will pay for these services.

In America the government charges a lease and fees to graze on federal land. What is Nigeria getting? Its pure crony capitalism.

https://www.blm.gov/programs/natural-resources/rangelands-and-grazing/livestock-grazing

Permits and leases generally cover a 10-year period and are renewable if the BLM determines that the terms and conditions of the expiring permit or lease are being met.

In Fiscal Year 2015, the BLM was allocated $79 million for its rangeland management program.  Of that figure, the agency spent $36.2 million, or 46 percent, on livestock grazing administration.  The other funds covered such activities as weed management, rangeland monitoring, planning, water development, vegetation restoration, and habitat improvement.  In 2015, the BLM collected $14.5 million in grazing fees.  The receipts from these annual fees, in accordance with legislative requirements, are shared with state and local governments.
