It has been 59 years since Nigeria got independence and we are a failed state. Nigeria is still a 3rd world country plagued by epidemic corruption, massive infrastructural deficit and tribal conflict.
Has Nigeria proven racists right, that blacks can never run a functional society? That is why we needed to be colonized.

Basic problem with most African countries

1.We earn revenues from selling raw materials whose prices we don't control.

2.We use the revenues from the raw materials to import and import. We also spend billions on subsidies to keep the people happy, at the expense of fresh foreign investment.

3.We also have the mentality that things like electricity must be free of charge. We do not pay back loans given to us by government, which makes things more difficult .(You cannot force a power company or a mobile phone company to run at a loss)

4.We all hail corrupt leaders, and castigate none of them.

1)Why has that not had any effect on the Arab countries like UAE,Oman or Qatar
2)Subsidy is the only benefit you get as a citizen of this fantastically corrupt contraption. As a Nigerian you provide your own security, private education, water, pool resources to buy a transformer. You are your own government because you live in a failed state
3) Nigeria will be willing to pay the charge if they had 24 hour electricity. Nigeria disco's were sold to corrupt politicians and ex militart generals who wanted to charge Nigerians exhorbitant fees without providing the required service.

1.UAE, Qatar and Kuwait produce a lot of oil and have low populations.

UAE produces 2.5million barrels of crude a day, and also has eleven million people. (Nigeria, 2.4million barrels for 200million people).

2.Subsides mean price controls. Price controls prevent companies from making adequate profit which could be reinvested in stuff like more refineries, better gas processing, etc. And it scares away investors.

Plus subsides always rise. The amount of money you need to pay to keep prices low keeps on going up. Especially since we are importing fuel.

3.I agree, but then again, the discos and Gencos need cash to build up the infrastructure to a point where we can have light 247.And where is the money going to come from for that? (Not the government, or why did they privatize power?)

1)Wrong logic-based on the allocation and IGR of states like Rivers,Lagos,Delta,Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom who generate more money than Benin Republic and Togo-they should have the same infrastructure as Dubai or London, but that is not the case due to massive corruption.
2)Subsidies have to be removed gradually-we are the poverty capital of the world with more than 70% living on below $1 dollar a day. Removing subsidy will have an adverse effect on the general population and will be counter productive. Until we have a serious government that is ready to bring millions out of poverty-subsidy should remain intact.
3)The corrupt politicians and ex-military generals that have looted $380 billion dollars since 1960 according to World Bank that own the disco's have the capital to invest.

1.Agree with you on the corruption, but Rivers and Co don't have up to the income of the Dubai and London.

If we want to develop really, we have to stop relying on oil. Despite you thinking otherwise, we are not earning enough from oil. Kuwait, and Qatar combined are not as much as 20 million people, yet produce more oil than Nigeria does.

Again, we have to run from oil. All those gulf oil countries look healthy because low populations. If their population was as high as Nigerians they would be broke too.

2.I know, removing subsidy is going to be very harsh. But the alternative is spending more scarce money on rising subsidy and subsidy cabals, and taking more loans. Paying 300 naira for fuel is the better alternative for me.

3.We need more than 380bn dollars to fix power. 100bn is needed to upgrade transmisson fir example. Again, while it would be good to drain the corrupt owners of the discos of their cash, it still might not be enough. Again, we end up taking loans (and it is happening already) just to keep discos running. 6million out of 200million Nigerians are paying for power too.

No nation can progress with just 25% of its citizens practicing Sunni Wahabbi Islamic sect let alone having more than that.

Biafra would have been Paradise of Africa if it had successfully yanked out of Nigeria.

Just as Quran is read backward so is the fate of those nations that embraced it.

1)Both states had the funds to bring a lot of development similar to what is obtainable in Dubai, since return to democratic rule. All the states have to show are billionaire politicians with private jets and properties scattered over Nigeria and abroad. You don't see the damage corruption does to societies. Regardless if the states received thrillion dollar allocation the money will still be looted.
2)It will be a better alternative for you,but at what expense?Prices of goods and services will go up. If you think insecurity is bad now, wait unil subsidy is removed when the government has done nothing to bring millions out of poverty. Nigeria is on a slow decent to anarchy, remember we are projected to be the rd most populous nation by 2050-you won't soon be able to leave your house to to hoards of jobless youths who will turn to crime.
3)$380 billion will go a long way to getting us to at least 50,000 megawatts.

1.I see the damage corruption does, but even then we are not as rich as we think we are. Corruption makes things worse.

2.Removing subsides brings in more investment, better facilities, more jobs and eventually lower fuel prices. Plus government saves money. Has a positive impact in the long term.

GSM facilities were built by investment because government did not subsidze it. And the same investment created more jobs in the telecommunications sector than NITEL ever could

3.I doubt the disco investors have up to 380bn dollars by the way. Plus, we need 900bn dollars (over the next thirty years according to experts)

Blacks can run a functional society, but not when blacks are trying to uphold a white mans or even a white harlots concept (aka the name Nigeria/Nigger Area).

The day Nigeria is gone the beginning of hope for the continent. Just look at all the threads in the politics section (even other sections). Any outsider would easily see a terrible “country” even useless celebrities....but yet we continue to keep thinking e go betta.....FOOLS we are...
