It was just meant to be. It probably happened sooner than expected, but Chelsea have unveiled Frank Lampard as their new boss.



After a successful season with Derby County where he almost delivered promotion to the Premier League, Chelsea approached the legendary midfielder and he has agreed to take over the club which he had so much success with as a player.


It is a risk to appoint the Englishman so soon into his managerial career, but clearly it is a risk Chelsea are willing to take.

Lampard had incredible backroom staff that helped him steer Derby to the Championship play-off final. Here we take a look at the staff members who have already been confirmed and the ones he could still take to Stamford Bridge.

Confirmed

Jody Morris - Assistant

Like Lampard, Morris is a former Chelsea midfielder.

He came through the youth ranks with his close friend and former Chelsea captain John Terry and became Chelsea's youngest ever debutant aged 17 in February 1996.


He made 124 appearances for the club and was a late substitute in the 2000 FA Cup final. He was also captain of the club for a short period.

In the 2013/14 season Morris returned to Chelsea to coach the under-21s.

He was also part of the coaching setup that saw Chelsea win the FA youth cup in 2018 for the fifth successive time.

In May 2018 he was appointed the assistant manager to Lampard at Derby and it has been reported that Morris will indeed join Chelsea legend at Stamford Bridge as his assistant head coach.

Chris Jones - First-team coach

Jones also had a previous affiliation with Chelsea, as he was once their fitness coach.

He is a former player who represented England at under-18 level and also played for the youth teams of Luton Town and Peterborough United.

He went on to graduate from Loughborough University with a degree in sports science.

After initially working with the academy and reserve teams, Jones was promoted to work with the first team in 2009 under Carlo Ancelotti.

The Englishman spent some time working with the England youths teams, before deciding to link up with Lampard at Derby last summer.

He will also follow the 41-year-old to Stamford Bridge as part of his backroom staff.
