James Popoola, the Administrative Secretary of the Ogun State Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Tuesday, narrowly escaped being jailed as the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal threatened to send him to prison for failure to appear before it.

The Administrative Secretary who was on subpoena as the 39th witness, PW9 of the Allied People’s Movement, APM, in the ongoing case against the emergence of Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the governor of Ogun State had failed to appear before the tribunal on two occasions.

The Tribunal, according to its Chairman, Justice Yusuf Halilu, reluctantly adjourned it’s sitting last Saturday when it was discovered that Popoola was not on sight as earlier directed on Friday.

When the panel reconstituted on Tuesday, it was discovered that Popoola was, again, not in court, a development which prompted the Chairman to issue a threat to jail him if he fails to appear before it within 30 minutes.
