Which western state that they will toll residential area so that every time you leave your house you must pay toll? 2 abi 3 tolls on that same road, although they don't have the liver to open the others. That toll should be at the outskirts of epe.

If they say they want to use it to maintain the road, I will not argue with them even though that line has been overused. October is not far, by God's grace we will be here to witness what will happen.

In NY, if you want have access to Manhattan you must go by toll. Lekki, VI and Ikoyi axis is similar. It’s the highbrow and commercial areas. There are alternate routes which of course are not convenient for a reason. In fact I noticed that when using satnav in America you are automatically routed through the toll, if you don’t specifically choose not to go through it. All governments Na scam.

In face when passing the toll you might not even know you just passed toll.

do you live in Nigeria? You talk as if you do not understand the behaviour of Nigerians

you are talking of mailing a bill to a Nigerian, especially and out of towner? laughable. There is a reason why this is a cash and carry society, The average Nigerian has no credibility, the car is probably not registered to his address or his name/address is spelt wrong or backwards. These things work in a society built on trust and underlying structures for tracking people.

October is not far, you will see!!

The system works if you make it. License plates srent connected to address now? Do you know from experience or just talking? October isn't far feel free to mention if it doesn't work out. They already have toll tags all they do is add it to this section.

That's the problem, we always want to compare and justify what clearly is not needed with other places where things work.

Not been to NY but most of the modern cities I have been to don't have toll in cities, most have tolls interstate which is understandable.

Nigeria is a country where most people feed on what they make for that day and all these electronic devices are only convenient for the 1% rich few which is insignificant to the problem it would cause for the majority.

Am not even taking our peculiarities into consideration.

That toll is unnecessary in that axis.

NAIL ON THE HEAD!!!! Things work when there is a buy in between govt and the people, when there is trust between govt and the people, when there is sense of community, not us v them or at the very least when they are designed to work and carefully thought through..including enforcement and potential bottlenecks. This has none of these qualities and WILL fail as with most govt's policies. The fact that we are revising the whole toll system is evidence that it has failed...at least from the point of view of the masses. The reason why it failed is it became a revenue machine and not with the interest of the masses. When the idea of the toll was muted, there was supposed to be an alternative route that ran along the coast. That was shelved because it would mean less traffic and revenue on the toll gate, when Ikoyi bridge was designed, it was never supposed to be tolled, but they decided to toll it and bring untold and hitherto unseen traffic to Lekki residents because not tolling it would divert traffic away from Lekki toll. You can see that the sincerity of purpose was never there for years they have brought hardship to lagosians because their priority was revenue not the masses. This is why these schemes fail!!!

Like I have said if they really are sincere, they would remove all tolls and introduce a statewide annual lagos state vehicle tax of 50-100k (which is what someone passing that road pays in tolls every year) which can be paid quarterly but these people are not thinkers!!

In my opinion, the toll should be on third mainland. The bridge really needs the funds and needs money for a second third mainland bridge.

By the way, if you live and work in that axis you should be able to afford the toll. If you can’t then you take BRT. The BRT should have their designated toll lanes too.

The solutions I mentioned work, you're just mentioning scenarios that dont happen or will simply get you arrested anyway. When the tanker exploded on lagos road the state figured out the truck came from kano and who it pwned to without scanner. I agres the toll system was a failure since it designed badly.

Are you saying there's no alternative route? Are the people on forum saying there is lying? The governor made it toll free on Thursday or something. You'll really see traffic then.

Why should the do a state wide tax on road alot of people dont use? If you use road you pay for it with toll or local property tax. Your idea works to.

what we know as the so called Oniru is not alternative route in the original plan. In any event it is kept deliberately in poor state so as not to incentivize people to avoid the toll plaza.

it is one thing deploying resources to chasing down one tanker in a high profile case. it is quite another chasing thousands of everyday Nigerians for peanuts. Are you going to chase a man who lives in Kano who only visited lagos once in a year for 2 crossings of N300? and once people know that what is the incentive to pay? Moreover are you going to tell such a person to register and open an account simply because he is visiting lagos once and probably never will again?

It is impractical and it will fail because it is knee jerk and a recipe for chaos. A man opens the toll for a few hours on one day and suddenly decides he has a solution. traffic flowed because there were no tolls as soo as you introduce tolls whether manual of electronic, traffic will return because defaulters, inconsiderate Nigerians etc will clog up the system arguing and if you allow them free access in the hope of recovering defaulters later, you will find that your recovery rate is poor. Because you wont chase me for small amounts because it's not worth your while and once people know this, they will exploit it, it's human nature and once that happens you will abandon the scheme.

Let me tell you what i think is really going on, somebody has come up with a proposal to the governor, whose purpose is primarily a way of making money from the govt. The guy will make his money, it will fail as they all do, and the next governor will come with his own person with his own scheme to make his own money. Like i said, if traffic were really uppermost on their minds, they would open up all tolls and impose a car tax on all cars, that is high enough that it is worth your while to chasing defaulters and can also be explained to the public as equivalent to the annual cost of using the toll gates plus they would tackle things like danfos, whose indiscriminate stopping in non approved zones are a major factor in the Lekki axis traffic

Like I said, if you want to import a scheme into Nigeria you have to factor in the environment, particularly the naturally difficult, sneaky and confrontational and opportunistic pysche of the Nigerian otherwise it will fail. DSTV worked in Nigeria by developing a system that was difficult to hack, it is the anti hacking system that was developed by DSTV specifically for Nigeria that is now used in all their other markets. if they had relied on the system they had before only 10% of Nigerians would be paying Dstv subscription.

There is alternative route then ok. If theroad is bad demand they fix it abd add to roads. The IGR should be put to use.

The police chased him down by simply looking in public records. The police exist in every state so yes. You dont need to make account hence why they scan plates and mail bill. Dont over complicate matter.

Your second senario has nothing to do with human nature. After you get late fees and ticket you'll learn. That solves finsncial aspect it's that simple. If you wish test Nigerian prison have fun.

If you want to pay car tax so bad you should suggest it to your state representative. The police do need to enforce traffic law but lagos sucks at it. The fact tankers sleep on roads prove that. Do you have proof sny of these politicians are directly making money or this conspiracy theory you made up.

it doesnt have to be a car tax, but tolls in a heavily populated area where there is only 1 good connecting road and the people are difficult will never result in free flowing traffic

Many countries use a car tax, vehicle license is a car tax it is just not high enough. But we like to deceive ourselves in Nigeria and refuse to make the right decisions. It's only in Nigeria that you will spend $3b on petrol subsidies a year so that people can spent hours burning away the petrol in traffic on on journeys of 1 hr that take 4 hours because the roads are so bad and then turn around to borrow money to build roads or abandon road projects because you have no money or go around shouting PPP looking for private individuals to build roads for you.

It is only in Nigeria that you are afraid to remove fuel subsidy under the guise that it is important for he average man but I fail to realise that you are subsidizing the rich who drive gaz guzzling SUVs.

it is only in Nigeria that a man will pay 300 a day minimum in toll, 5 days a week , 50 weeks a year the equivalent of 75k a year but feels it is a bad idea to pay 75k a year in car tax and not have to burn additional petrol in toll gate induced traffic.

The Nigerian pysche is a unique pysche.....common sense not required to be a Nigerian!!! These is why our govt fails and yes Sanwo olu will perform at a mediocre level just as Ambode, Fashola and Tinubu before them. We live in a society where "world class" and "excellence" seem to have a different meaning from what was perceived by the inventors of those words. "world class" and "excellence" in the lagos context seems to mean better than the likes of osogbo, Ekiti, Nnewi, Onitsha, Jalingo and Daura.

● I agree with removing fuel subsidy.
● I doubt car tax will pay for all the road needs. Im ignorant to which country does. Im sure u other stuff in mind so im not going to straw man you.
● you pay if you use toll.
● Go ahead fix your alternative routes.

As you told me repeatly the Nigerian population are criminals and never to be trusted. The politicians theives and police are incompetent. Good luck with plan.

Mediocre minds (which is a summary of our public officers) and a wicked, selfish populalation cannot produce and implement1st class ideas so the plan is not to have any illusions or lured into false hopes expect any meaningful development from Nigeria and Nigerians.........it's working so far.

Nice move by the Sanwo-Olu government. Another move that can help reduce traffic on the expressway is to have all the traffic lights on the road synchronized.

AutoReportNG:
A cross-section of Lagos residents and motorists on Friday commended the State Government for proposing a “touch and go” electronic payment system that will allow motorists pass quickly at the toll plaza of Lekki-Ikoyi Link bridge.

The State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu had on Wednesday announced that the mode of toll collection at the bridge would completely go electronic by October this year, saying that the development was part of efforts to ensure free flow of traffic within the axis.

The Governor further declared the use of toll plazas at both Lekki-Epe Expressway and Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge free of charge on Thursday July 11 from 6:30am to 9:30 am, and in the evening from 4:30pm to 8pm, also in a bid to tackle the gridlock in the corridor.

Reacting, a resident of the axis, Mrs Bimbo Fatoki said the development was a well-appreciated one, saying the free access at the toll plazas hugely reduced travel time.

“This is a welcome development and everyone is happy; kids did not get to school late this because the road was free and I want to say that more of this development will be welcomed,” Fatoki said.

Another resident simply identified as Mr Alimi, said the development was an eloquent confirmation that the government of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was responsible and listens to the people.

“This development is good and it shows that the government is responsible and listens to the complaints of the people. Although I welcome this, however, in my opinion, Thursday is not the best day for the survey due to the sanitation because not everyone will come out at the same time.

“I also think that the roundabout in this area should be taken out because it is also part of the problem,” he said.

On his part, Mr John Okechuwu said he was pleasantly surprised to see the toll gate free as it was usually jam packed, adding that the electronic system would make movement faster.

A truck driver, Mr Fatai Omotayo said the electronic system was the way to go, adding that he was already using an E-card; while another motorist, Mr Coker urged government to fix the bad roads and review the traffic light, especially in terms of allocating more time to green light to enhance movement.

“I have passed through several junction before getting to the toll gate and there was hold-up but I must say I am happy with the step taken by the government on the free access as well as the electronic system,” said another resident, Mr Christoper.

Other residents, who spoke, urged government to explore the possibility of an alternative route to be created, as well as ensure that all the booths at the toll plazas are functional.

I don't think that is true irrespective of the tribes, states or where you come from, its our duty to report the news as it were, we can't be everywhere and we can't be omnipresent in all states monitoring all developments, if you felt there are some good works across your locality that are not reported, please send us the pictures and a little write up to it and see if we won't publish it.

face the truth, if you dont like being described as evil people or your country as a shithole then do something about it.

Good people can have bad rulers for a short period but only bad people endure bad rulers for as long as Nigeria has! The truth hurts!!

the way you have reacted is exactly why Nigeria never makes progress, you "reject it" "over my dead body" "it's your family not mine" etc etc

The average Nigerian is a crook, is selfish, is wicked and does not care about his fellow man or his community, only himself. even his religiousness is only about himself, praying/fasting for husband/child, sickness or money....matters that affect self! How many times have you prayed for the country? This is why we have the country we have!

this is the problem with many Nigerians, you think talk and act emotionally rather than critically and logically! because I speak my truth means I delight in it?

The 1st path to change is to accept there is a problem and a need for change, you and many Nigerians havent. When you are still defensive and refusing to accept your condition, you are far away from turning the corner. An alchoholic or a drug addict cannot clean himself until he accepts he has a problem, many dont. The journey to recovery is hard but you cannot start until you accept you have a problem and the longer you live in denial the worse your problem becomes....this is the summation of Nigeria!!!

Which country in the world have you seen that has made progress that behaves like we do? The path of Nigeria is no different from that of an alchoholic or a drug addict, the end result with our mindset is assured, destruction is inevitable....it's only a matter of time, the signs are there already. if you like abuse me and continue like an ostrich burying your head in the sand it wont change the future !!

Fela sang songs 40 years ago that are very apt today, that tells you that the problem isnt our leaders (because they have changed many times) but us as Nigerians. You need a certain pysche for nationhood and development...we dont have that mindset as a people...our problem is not our leaders. Leaders will only go as far as the people will tolerate....remmember that! Dont let anyone fool you, every leader everywhere fear the people more than anything else. If your leaders dont fear you, it says something about you the people!! No leadership survives a people's revolt, at the very least they change.

This is the selfish mindset of the Nigerian as sang by Fela about Nigerians 40 years ago....any different from today's Nigerian?

"My people self they fear too much
We fear for the thing we no see
We fear for the air around us
We fear to fight for freedom
We fear to fight for liberty
We fear to fight for justice
We fear to fight for happiness
We always get reason to fear:
We no wan die
We no wan wound
We no wan quench
We no wan go
I get one child
Mama dey for house
Papa dey for house
I wan build house
I don build house
I no want quench
I want enjoy
I no wan go
Ah!
So policeman go slap your face
You no go talk
Army man go whip your yansh
You go they look like donkey
Rhodesia they do them own
Our leaders they yab for nothing
South Africa they do them own"

a 42 year old song by a man who understands the Nigerian pysche!!!

the govt official steals money for roads, schools and hospitals and spends on his family (evil and wicked acts)
instead of confronting the govt, the poor man steals from his fellow poor man, kills his fellow poor man for money rituals, the poor police, civil servants etc torture the poor citizens, the pastors abuse the desperation of his poor flock all evil acts of wickedness. But all come together and worship in churches and mosques!!

this is the problem with many Nigerians, you think talk and act emotionally rather than critically and logically! because I speak my truth means I delight in it?

The 1st path to change is to accept there is a problem and a need for change, you and many Nigerians havent. When you are still defensive and refusing to accept your condition, you are far away from turning the corner. An alchoholic or a drug addict cannot clean himself until he accepts he has a problem, many dont. The journey to recovery is hard but you cannot start until you accept you have a problem and the longer you live in denial the worse your problem becomes....this is the summation of Nigeria!!!

You have a lot of personal issues that you need to deal with. None of your rants has to do with Nigerians. You over generalize and say a lot of rubbish.

like i said about the alchoholic and the drug addict...they never accept they have a problem...until they inevitably overdose or ruin their liver....and even then!!

they always deflect on to someone/something else like you are trying to do.
