I was born and raised in the U.K. and I’m so sorry We don’t pronounce lecturer as Lek tra Tutorial as chew to re all or whatever you wrote there. And what’s even the big deal in the British accent. When I moved to Nigeria in 2010 as a 15 year old britico, I tried so hard to change my accent into the naija one. Till this day I have a mixture of both accents, but I prefer my African roots. Do better please, let everyone be themselves. There’s beauty in Africa. 3 Likes |

Safitu: Well, let me say firstly, that I am delighted to meet you, although in a rather unusual circumstance. Nice meeting you all the same. * There are alternate pronunciations of the word "lecturer" across the many regional accents of the UK. With the technique called elision, employed in Received Pronunciation RP, "lecturer" becomes /lec tra/. The vowel in lect(u)rer is elided or deleted. * Tumour, tube, Tunisia, tutor, YouTube are pronounced /choo mor/, /choob/, /choo ni zia/, /choo tor/ and /you choob/ in RP, which is in no disregard to alternate regional pronunciations. Likewise, "tutorial" could be pronounced /choo toh ree ol/. I said "could" not must. * You moved to Nigeria in 2010 from your post, and chose to modify your accent towards the Nigerian one, now that's beautiful and I'm proud of you. However, you could do that because of "freedom of the will" and the freedom to choose how you wish to speak or be heard, other people should be entitled to this freedom of choice as well to speak how they please and leaves you no position to judge them, if no one judges you. * This post is not to sell the British accent above the Nigerian one, rather for those who seek to modify their speaking for personal, career or business reasons. Everyone should do what makes them feel most comfortable, just like you did some years ago. What works for you might not work for everyone, and what works for everyone might not work for you. Nice meeting you. 2 Likes |
