Senate Panel Requests More Time To Investigate Senate Elisha Abbo Over Assault by Priscy01(f): 1:33pm On Jul 17, 2019
The Senate Ad hoc Committee investigating the allegation of assault brought against Senator Elisha Abbo has requested for more time to complete its assignment, Igbere TV reports.

The panel chairman, Senator Sam Egwu made the request during plenary on Wednesday relying on Order 43 of the Senate.

Egwu, a former governor of Ebonyi State, said additional time would enable his committee gather more information to diligently do the investigation and report back to the Senate.

He decried the refusal of some of those who appeared before the panel to furnish it with needed information, on the fear of prejudice of the court.

According to him, the victim, her lawyers, and Mr Abbo did not speak on the matter because the case was before the case.

Egwu also said that the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bala Ciroma, who appeared before the panel gave a similar excuse.

β€œIn the course of the investigation, most of those invited appeared but said the matter is before the court, fearing the contempt of the Court,” he said.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan, before granting the request, said their assignment was different from what the court was currently trying the senator for.

The Senate had on July 3 set up a 6-man panel to investigate Abbo over alleged assault on a woman at a sex shop in Abuja.

The panel was given two weeks to submit its report.
