The audio recording that purportedly has Zimbabwe’s First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa asking and unnamed male to go kill her husband, President Emerson Mnangagwa, was doctored, says government spokesman Nick Mangwana.

The recording which has been trending in Zimbabwe, has a woman whose voice sounds like the First Lady’s speaking with a top army commander.

But Newsday reports the government’s spokesperson as saying that there is a lot of “manipulation and simulation of the first lady’s voice”.

The woman in the recording tells the uman to kill the president instead of her because she has children.

She is heard asking the male voice what [the military] want from her and where they are taking the information, adding that, “I am not involved in politics or the army.”

The female voice insinuates that her the military is trying to get to her husband through her.

The voice adds, “Go and kill Mnangagwa not me because I am a mother”.

There is an explosion of technology capable of simulating people’s voices. The technology can pick different vowel and consonant sounds from a sentence made by someone and rearrange them, forming entirely new sentences with the same voice.

We all know of Photoshop for editing images. But there is now also technology that edits videos. So a video showing someone performing an activity can even be doctored and show the person performing an entirely different activity.
