President Trump has announced that the U.S. is going to halt sales of its F-35 stealth fighter jet to Turkey because the country received a new missile defense system from Russia – an exchange he claims was spurred by actions from the Obama administration.

Trump, speaking during a Cabinet meeting Tuesday, suggested the U.S. ended up in this scenario as a result of the past president’s administration imposing too many conditions for Turkey to purchase the U.S.-made Patriot missile system, an alternative to the Russian S-400 system they recently obtained, according to The Wall Street Journal.

U.S. officials previously have expressed concerns about Moscow’s potential intelligence gathering if Turkey came to be in possession of both the advanced American aircraft and the Russian missile-defense technology.

Erdogan is a fool, he just lost years and millions of dollars in investments by this action. Trump can't help him here because his hands are tied, the 2017 CAATSA clearly States that any NATO ally that buys such air defence systems from Russia will be sanctioned. Unless Trump is ready to break the law, there's really nothing he can do for Erdogan. So turkey is now going to lose their five f35 fighter jets already paid for and fully developed in the US in addition to that, the technical cooperation between the US and Turkish air force will end which means no more training of Turkish air force personnel by the US. But Obama is really to be blamed for all this, Turkey did everything possible to buy the patriot missile defence system from the US but Obama simply refused to sell for God knows why? Turkey had no option than to turn to other sources. But my grouse with erdogan is that he should have been smart and waited for the US elections to happen before he started dealing with the Russians. Maybe he didn't believe Trump would win

Turkey is a sovereign nation for God sake. Turkey knows what's best for her. The s400 performance eclipses that of the best air defence system in US arsenal and that's what they want.

Turkey wanted to buy the patriots but the US refused, when they went to the Russians the US decided to offer the patriot but at a much higher price than the s400, and they refused tech transfer, how is that turkeys fault. The US was refusing to sell an inferior system, when they did, they were refusing to do tech transfer and the system was much more expensive than the s400.
