Good evening Nairalanders, I believe in the saying that a problem shared is a problem solved so I have come today to hear from the enlightened ones in the house the solution to this strange thing coming out of my brother's ear. who have have seen this before? knows what it is? and a way out?

does it smell ? seems like what my cousin had while i was younger, i remember him going to get his ear flushed (i don't know the procedure) at the hospital by an ear doctor, he also took drugs then. just try to see an ear doctor, i can't remember every detail though. |

PRESENTATION:There's a family friend kid that also experience this, he was taken to the hospital for treatment. OP it's not a serious condition tho, sometimes it heals itself, just follow the doctor prescriptions. 1 Like |

Oga please go to the hospital now! That is a purulent otitis media and can lead to brain abscess and meningitis (spread to the brain) with life threatening complications. It is a SERIOUS condition. Please. That discharge from the ear smells so bad. It can lead to permanent deafness too. Please Nairalanders, if someone opens a thread for a disease condition he or she or relative is suffering, the best you can do is tell the person to go to the hospital. I can't imagine somebody said this condition is not serious. We play with everything. Boss your brother needs to see an ENT specialist ASAP. Read more about otitis media hear. When you are done. There are different causes of ear discharge, doctors should diagnose that before you start saying it's life threatening. I'm sure the doctor they took the kid to would have mention that instead they gave him drugs to use which is the first treatment. |

tintingz: whether it is life threatening or not, it doesn't rule out the fact that it can spread beyond the middle ear thereby causing serious complications. The nerve that controls facial muscles courses through the middle ear. it can be damaged leading to facial paralysis. There are also other complications that may be life threatening later |

I suffered this thing last year but my own was clear water gushing out at intervals. I was scared at first but the ENT doctor flushed my ear and advised me to stop using ear buds too much (story for the gods). I was given ear drops and that was all. Reoccurence is very high if the eardrops are not used correctly so make sure he uses it religiously. I learned this the hard way. Make I no lie the water gushing out was pleasurable like mad. Honestly. Like having an orgasm. But this one that's brown like this I dont know. Run to the hospital now now 1 Like |

That's chronic otitis media. Take him to a teaching hospital to see an ENT surgeon. This can lead to deafness, brain abscess and meningitis. |
