The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.

Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.

The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.

Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”

The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.

Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.

He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

No wonder you are a buharist..Yes Lagos borrowed money like all of them..The terms of the loan was for the project..Buhari came in and claimed one thing one thing..He cancelled it and the cancellation according to the terms of the loan cost Lagos $70million..Not even Lagos alone but the whole of Nigeria cos the loan was among the $30billon loan written off for us by the Paris club due to the ingenuity of Obasanjo and Okonjo Iweala..These are facts and not propaganda.

That Wikipedia link you posted is inaccurate. And there’s nothing to back up the claim that the cancellation cost Lagos money. The loan is the reason the project was canceled in the first place. Back in 2015. I spent hours reading about this project. There’s even an interview from jakande himself. Shagari was the one that sabotaged the project because jakande was an opposition and he didn’t congratulate shagari when he was elected. Buhari has to cancel it because the federal government can not stand as a guarantor for Lagos state government to get the loan. You can read more about it here.

Nobody snitched anyone. The myth of Awolowo, a 78 year old civilian with no army or Militia planning to overthrow General Babangida's Military Government is the unreseanable creation of some disgruntled bigots from a certain region of the country (I hope you already know them? Plan succeeding and there was NO PLAN, are two different things

There are still witnesses still alive till today, in that meeting that Alhj Jakande SECRETLY RECORDED and gave the Tape to Babangida.
Based on the tape recording, Babangida was to charge Awolowo for treason and the result is death penalty.
Awolowo knew he wont go to Prison again a second time, he decided to take the route of brave leaders of the past: Death is better than Disgrace.
Mind you, Jakande was one of the best Governors of Lagos in the past, his achievements speak for themselves and no one can take that away from him but l repeat: He SNITCHED on Awolowo to Babangida, directly caused the suicide of Awolowo and a TRAITOR among Yorubas.
No one can take that away from him as well.
That is what generations unborn will remember most, when the name Lateef Jakande is mentioned in Yoruba history. A SNITCH!
