Buhari faults crackdown on Boko Haram
JUNE 3, 2013

Presidential candidate for the Congress for Progressive Change in the 2011 Presidential election, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has frowned on the emergency rule in parts of the North. He alleged that innocent civilians were being killed in the states.

Buhari speaking during a Liberty FM Hausa Service Programme, Guest of the Week, on Sunday in Kaduna said that Boko Haram members were being killed and their houses demolished unlike the “special treatment” given to the Niger Delta militants by the Federal Government.

Terrible insult on the intelligence of the citizens of this potentially great country that has been held hostage for too long by cattle rearers. cry

INSECURITY: We won’t attend meeting with Miyetti Allah- Southern, Middle Belt leaders tell Abubakar

We were comfortable up to that point until we saw the following: Gan Allah Fulani Development Association, and Miyetti Allah. “While we do not know the members of the first group, the lumping of Miyetti Allah, a trade association for cattle herders and whose members have been accused of various violations of rights, including life, across the country sends a worrying signal to us.

“It falls into the categorisation of our respected socio-cultural platforms with Miyetti Allah by Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu. “We consider the above a grave insult on our bodies and our coming to a roundtable with the group would mean acquiescence to the narrative that put us in the same bracket with those wielding illegal AK-47 all over the country and inflicting terror on fellow citizens.

cuvox:
Kaduna state Governor Mallam Nasir el-Rufai has said his government has traced some violent, aggrieved Fulani to their countries and paid them to stop the killings of Southern Kaduna natives and the destruction of their communities saying that the renewed violence is carried out by bandits.

El-Rufai made this known while fielding questions from some select Journalists in his office in Kaduna.

He said: “For southern Kaduna, we didn’t understand what was going on and we decided to set up a committee under Gen. Martin Luther Agwai (rtd) to find out what was going on there. What was established was that the root of the problem has a history starting from the 2011 post election violence.

“Fulani herdsmen from across Africa bring their cattle down towards Middle Belt and Southern Nigeria. The moment the rains starts around March, April, they start moving them up to go back to their various communities and countries.

“Unfortunately, it was when they were moving up with their cattle across Southern Kaduna that the elections of 2011 took place and the crisis trapped some of them.

“Some of them were from Niger, Cameroon, Chad, Mali and Senegal. Fulanis are in 14 African countries and they traverse this country with the cattle.“So many of these people were killed, cattle lost and they organised themselves and came back to revenge.

It's funny how a country with so many intelligent consultants and elder statesmen can't simply tell cattle rearers to go build ranches for their private business....
These plenty meetings with Myetti Allah nor necessary...
Their method of doing business is irresponsibility at its peak.. you don't want to be responsible for your cows accomodation and feeding? How does that work?

Myetti Allah should get ranches and keep their cows in one place...
Moving around with cattles (nomadic grazing) should be banned in Nigeria so that any local or foreign herdsmen seen moving about with cattles in people's farms can be prosecuted..
It is now a huge security issue

This make-believe illusion that the South West is divided into Yoruba Christian and Muslims only exists in the minds of bitter and hateful people on Nairaland.
Don't be deceived, Yorubas have always been united and live in harmony, that laudable trait has seen to the progress of the Southwest above other regions.

True... really dont know why the FG and Miyetti Allah is trying so hard to make a cattle breeders association the face of Fulani, are there no Fulanis of other professions and other groups whom are well learned?

If the FG so wants it, let it set up a Fulani consultative forum (FCF) which supersedes the Miyetti. And if the Fulanis which the president and other notable individuals belongs to wants to put cattle herders as its face, then that is fine. Then we can apportion blame on Fulani in general and not when things go wrong Miyetti(herdsmen and bandits) takes the blame shielding the Fulani leaders which comprises of past Generals and presidents whom are supposed to take better decisions in guiding the young. But are only seen when General elections come up.

but we all know they wont create such forums as it would further divide the North and stop its usage as a united stronghold while the North in general bears the stigmatization of their atrocities at it's own general detriment. Which is one of the major reason the middle belt has asked not to be addressed as North.

Well thoughout

Arewa is ok, why inviting a trade group, to a stakeholders meeting. This issue is a security and government policy issue. In the light of these deaths due to cow indiscriminate movement, the president should ban cow herding, just like it proscribed IPOB and Shites, and instruct the big men who have these cows to put them in ranches, so the clashes stop. These herdsmen attacks on villagers, have killed more people, than the deaths in IPOB and Shites protests. There is too much previledge being given to these herders by this APC government. Our crops and peace, is more important to us than cow meat. We have goat, pigs, chicken, turkey, and we can rear our own cow, so Miyetti is irrelevant.

Ignorance of your perceptions on SW proves that you don't understand SW on religions issue, in SW no family does't has both Christians and Muslims, there's period when only two governors were Christians others were Muslims and currently only one governor is a Muslim while others are Christian that's SW for you.

The Presidency, yesterday, charged those against the administration’s ranching and colony programmes for herdsmen to rethink, noting that they are better off living with the ranches and colonies than dying through the persisting conflicts.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina, speaking on an AIT morning programme in response to a question on ancestral attachments to land said: “Ancestral attachment? You can only have ancestral attachment when you are alive.

If you are talking about ancestral attachment, if you are dead, how does the attachment matter? The exhortation from the Presidency came on a day Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, said that history would be harsh on the present administration if it failed to stop the mass killing of innocent Nigerians.

My honest advice to southern and middle belt leaders who have been on the receiving end of the Fulani Herdsmen menace is to never be deceived by the this so-called "sugar-coated" meetings because a jihadist is a terrorist, and would never change.

No matter how peace is preached and even enforced, a jihadist will use the only available opportunity to wreck havoke.

It's a phycological thing, that can be defeated when the physiology behind jihadists activities is defeated.

But, you all will agree with me that's a mission impossible. It's like saying Christianity shouldn't exist.

The only way out, is for state governments in the south and middle belt to arm local vigilantes that will wander the length and breath of the forests in this areas. Confronting this jihadists firepower for firepower.

Yes, it's a war that most be fought and won. Because, the federal government have lost that capability to protect the Nigerian people against this terrorists. Just like they've failed to protect citizens in zamfara, kaduna, and adamawa.

I've made a similar argument elsewhere, and this is the only pragmatic solution. We can't surrender Southern/Middle Beltan bushes to these Fulani animals to lay claim to and perpetrate atrocities against our people. That is detrimental to our future.

We must arm and empower local people who know the geography of these inner terrains, to comb the bushes and KILL FULANI ON SIGHT. There is nothing like discussing or negotiating with them. Just purge them off - fumigate them like the pests they are. The terms of reference of these local vigilantes is very simple. Kill any Fulani you encounter in any bush. No more, no less.

True, there might be collateral damage; some of our people could die in the process, some of their hostages could die, but that's the Supreme Price that must be paid for our liberation
